SM Versus F-SM

Okay... so I know for sure that my car runs in SM... now the question is do I go and run in the front drive class indexed... so should I just race in pure SM... I don't quite get the what/why of them being different but I see that they are listed as seperate groupings if you review results etc for our local SCCA... so if anyone can shed some light on this I'd appreciate it

pro's con's etc is great!

there is a link... now if you go into it you'll see there is a grouping of cars that in the SM class... but then if you go through it and look at the F (front drive street) class you will see a number of SM cars in there that are then ranked based on PAX but none of them are shared between the two lists... hence my confusion.

Maybe I get it now... it looks like an SM car can run in F as long as the treadwear they use for tires is above 140... so with me running Hoosiers and/or Victo's I have to run in SM no matter what... that I can deal with... makes sense!

Something is wacky... I'm trying to decide what to do as it will determine what tires I buy... if I have to use a street tire to run in the F indexed class then obviously I'll get the Azenis... if i can still run Victo's in there for some reason then I'll get those... but all part of what I need to figure out.

I found out what the deal is... it's an index thing that some regions use.. it's not really a normal class but basically what it does is allows anyone who isn't or won't use DOT-R's to be seperated from those that do. So anyone on a street tire (tread rating above 140) is allowed to run in the F class and they run with their PAX index to determine who wins etc... anyone in classes like FS, GS, HS, FSP, SM, etc can compete in it... BUT those in classes like STX, STS, STU etc cannot compete in the F Class.

I'd just stay in SM.... if you ever go to a tour or pro, you'll have to run SM anyways...
