Sluggish performance after oil change?!

Hello All,

Been visiting this post for a while now reading up on MS3 posts before purchasing my 09. Took it to the dealer for it's first oil change today (680 miles), was in and out within an hour. All was good on the drive to work. On the way home I've noticed that I'm not getting that rush I'm used to at 3rd gear.... Most of my commute is on an expressway so Lots of stop and go. So I had about 10 miles of testing, had the gas peddle pegged a few time in 3rd but pick up is slow, defenitly not what I'm used to.

Was wondering if anyone here have this experience before? I plan to call the dealer tomorrow but I'm dying to know what is going on.... Appreciate some feedback from you all.

Thanks.

I've never had that problem but I've only done one change and did it myself. Call and make sure they put in the right weight oil, other then that I have no idea...

There have been numerous instances where the dealer put the wrong oil in... Though that shouldn't affect performance that much...

Make sure they put 5W-30 in there...

Dealerships are such tools!!

Even seriously wrong oil shouldn't affect performance. Mine's had several oil changes with no noticeable difference in oomph. Something else is different. No speculation on what, though.

Unless they put in an extra quart theres not a whole lot an oil change can do to cause this.

This happened to my car too...used 5w30, full synthetic. All around, the car felt significantly slower. I didn't do anything else other than change the oil.

did they change the air filter on you? wrong air filter would be my bet - i would still check the oil level tho

im going with a placebo effect. you are getting used to the car now. also it could just be that you were at the wrong speed/rpm to get the same power that you are used to.

For me, the difference was drastic. I drove my car before the oil change, and again after. There was a noticeable loss in power and responsiveness.

I would give it a few days of testing before you call the dealer. At least my mps 6 feels awesome some days and pretty sluggish others. Its weird but I know im not the only one.

Could be anything really.

Like others said, could be that you're finally get used to the power.

Could be that the dealer did something on purpose to make you come back.

They may have flashed your ecu with the latest update. Reset your ecu. Did you buy gas recently, may have gotten 87 octane.

hmmm... mine always feels better after an oil change... im guessing too much oil

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Decided not to call the dealer just yet until I test drive it again this weekend. I can't imagine the machanic updating the ECU for a quick old change or changing the air filter either. It's a complementary 1st oil change, so I would imagine they will do the minimal to save cost. I'll give an update when I get to the bottom of this...

Follow up...... Sunday
Funny thing, the car seems to have gotten back it's power. Now I'm getting back that rush I'm use to in most of the gears, not 100%, but close to it. In responding to "kelvincko" I did fill up the tank on Friday just before going to the dealer, confirmed 91 octane.

Interesting... Perhaps the ECU was updated???

Anyway, thanks for eveyone's input.

Cheers
