slow starting

does anyone else's msp crank slowly to start in cold weather. I know that it's cold and things freeze, but none of my other cars sound as bad when starting.

all batteries put out less power at lower temps. also the stock battery is a POS! also, you use more electronics(heater, rear defrost) in the winter and if you dont have the car running long enough the battery wont fully recharge. also, cold weatehr just isnt good for batteries....

We've got a new idiot on the boards, yay.....

Mine doesn't crank slowly, but it does take a few more turns to start the engine.

i am not an idiot Raiz, i just am not sure how to explain fully.

As i said i know the cold is hard on cars, it just seems weak.

And all of you that live in Ca and Fla, you don't even know what cold is.

Yes, there have been a few threads on this. The MSP turns over slow on a cold AM, it is normal.

The battery and alternator on this car are on the weak side. I'm thinking an Optima battery might be a good investment.

My car BARELY started this AM at -10*.

I haven't had any problems with mine starting up in the cold. Of course here cold isn't like up north. A cold night here is in low 30's.

It fires up without hesitation at 30*. I'm talking subzero here.

Any colder than minus 10-15*and you'd need a block heater or a jump if you wanted to the car to start.

Hey michiganspeed, the post wasn't directed at you. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. It was turbo that was kinda getting on my nerves.
BTW, I'm originally from Indiana (Ft. Wayne area) so I think I know what cold is. :D I just moved out to California in the middle of this summer. Having about the same temperature yearround is really kind of...... strange to me. Anyways, welcome to the forums! (humpleg)

hey, take it easy, not everyone knows everything about cars.
When you start your car, make sure you don't have anything running.ie. turno off stereo, heater, lights, clsoe dorr to start etc. Every little bit of power makes a difference. And disregard all the harshness, some people on here are dicks.

I find this funny... i posted a thread about protege's and winter... now i have an MP3 but i figured since the MP3, P5 and MSP are all built on the SAME platform... i'd post it in 3rd gen protege and NOT the MP3 forum.

Guess the MSP owners will never learn there are other sections on this forum.

/end educate

ummm, **** off. Thnx. I post all over, never do I just stick to one section. Sure most MSpers are bad for it, but there is a whole lot of us who aren't. Watch the generalizations, its caused trouble before.
