Skunk2 vs. Ground Control

I know for a fact and from experience that minor adjustments to coilover kits on a car will not affect the alignment to the point were the driver will notice a huge difference and the tires will wear beyond belief. I know this because like I said, I've owned to previous cars where I was constantly changing the height. I not talking about dropping the car 3.5 inches then raising it back up to normal stock height. I'm talking about 4-5 turns on the perch, which translates to about a half an inch on both of my setups. Your making it sound as if it will throw the alignment completely out of whack, which not the case. Of course, it could be entirely coincedental that both of my cars remained fine after adjusting the height, but that is doubtful. I guess if you haven't seen what I'm talking about there is no way to convince you. You are right that it will "change" the alignment, but it certainly won't be a drastic change. At the most it would change you camber slightly.

whats up!

whats up everyone, P5 newbie here. I have had my p5 about two days now and I am looking to lower it already. I wanted to know what the best set up is for the price. I am not into coil overs, I just want a nice drop, something that looks good and rides decently. Also I wanted to know if anyone has had a troubles with camber after lowering. let me know

Well, it kinda through me off when you said, you would only "slam" your car for weekend cruising and shows... slamming isn't really a minor adjustment now is it? You don't want to through your alighnment off at all, anytime, even if its only a little, the more times your tire turns your tire is going to get worse. anytime you lower or raise your car it throws off the alighnment and the camber, a hair can even cause wear on the tires.

Like I said, each car might be different. I'm just speaking from my experience with my Civics. Even after slamming the car, then raising it back up to "slightly tucking", the ride was still good and my tires still lasted a cross country trip from Michigan to Cali with no extreme wear. So, maybe I'm just lucky, or I am right in saying that having your car aligned after the initial drop then lowering some more won't really hurt your car.

Everyone knows that when you lower your car with springs or coilovers it is always a good idea to wait about 2 weeks before you get your car an alighnment, so the springs can settle, of course the springs don't settle a lot, but they settle a small amount, if it didn't matter about having a alignment when slightly lowing your car, it wouldn;t matter if you got a alighnment right after you lowerd it rather than waiting a couple weeks for the springs to settle.

the point of the matter is, any time you adjust it you need an alighnment!

I guess its all a matter of opinion as far as getting the alignment. My friend SubyWan put some Tein S-Tech springs on his WRX wagon an never got an alignment. That was back in Septmber, and his tires are still fine to this very day. So I'm confident after seeing these results on 3 different cars that an alignment is not mandatory, but one should be done if you care about your tires. I don't care all that much since I drive hard and tread doesn't last to long with me.

I put a new thread up about skunk2 before i read this thread.......But skunk2 next week is coming out with the coilovers for mp3 and p5......I even called skunk2 and they told me that.......The reason i want skunk2 is because they are making stuff specifically for the mp3 and p5........Let me know what you all think......Because I was looking at eibach, nuespeed, toicko, jic also......Jic is probably the best but i dont want to spend that ammount of money......

ground control uses eibach springs, so thats a always good, skunk 2 will probley make an awesome coilover, but they just cost so much, i don't see them being much better if any.

What made me think they would be a whole lot more than ground control was an ad I saw once, I believe all their coilovers was listed as 479.00 or so and then it had the price for the protege 5 not yet listed.

If the others were 479 i'm sure the protege 5 would be 479 as well... APEXistud what makes you think you know the price, above you said they didn't even make parts for mazda. heh.

I know the price of the Skunk2 because, I know what I am talking about and you my friend do not. I almost purchased a set for my Civic and seeing as how almost all of their coilover are prices pretty much the same, you can come to the conclusion that our will probably be. That and who in their right mind would pay over $450 for a set of coilovers that only have springs and perch. The prices listed are retail and I guarantee you can always beat retail, you just have to know how to shop. Also if you call companies and get the real info, you might not make your self look like a complete ass on the boards. I didn't see the mag that you guys were talking about in the beginning of this post and according to their website, they don't make any Mazda parts. Then I took a sec to call them directlly and found that they hadn't had the time to update their site. The reason I don't believe everything I see in mags is because of misprinting and believe me, there is quite a bit of it going on.

you know the price because "you know what you are talking about" You think you know what you are talking about?

I didn't make an ass of myself, you did. You are the one who said skunk 2 didn't make anything for mazda, maybe you should have called the company before you said that to save yourself the embarrassment of looking like an "ass".

and your the site leader, haha. you should make a site instead of just a message board.

I'm not the website leader bung hole , I am a Moderator on this site. I think it would be wise of you to watch who you're speaking to. So, get you head out of your arse and respect the elders Mr. Newby.

I know the prices because I am in very close contact with quite a few vendors and wholesalers and I think they might have a clue as to what the prices will be, more so than you will my friend. And as for me making myself look like an ass, I clearly admitted to making a mistake in thinking that Skunk2 had no Mazda Application. Besides the fact that they did not update their site and beside the fact that ARD P5, who pretty much has his ear to the Protege scene did not hear of this, I was assuming that I was in the right. Well, I was wrong and I quickly corrected myself. Also.....take a close look at Skunk2's application list...do you see anything Mazda prior to these newly released Coilovers. Nope, didn't think so.

SKUNK2 IS COMING OUT THIS WEEK FOR MP3 AND P5.......TO APEX DEFENSE I HAD TO CALL THEM MYSELF LAST WEEK TO FIND OUT........THEY HAD IT IN THIS MONTHS IMPORT MAGAZINE......THEY NEVER DID HAVE THE PRODUCT IN THE PAST....JUST RECENTLY DID THEY RELEASE THEIR PRODUCTS FOR MAZDA.........

I have Ground Control and I like them a lot, the only problem is that my tires scrape the body when I'm doing auto-x or when I got a car full. Also the other day I was racing somebody up a windy hill and hit a cattlegaurd a little hard, since then I have a wierd thump every once in a while. I took the wheel apart and didn't find anything broken, loose, or damaged. I have to get somebody to check it out. As for the race, it was a stock 2002 GTI, and I kept up well. But he had a lot of body roll. still I KEPT UP

It wont a lucky guess, it seems like the person who started the theard and i are the only ones who knew about the skunk 2 release, that should tell you somtthing.

Go ahead and ban me from the boards because i make you look dumb.

Yo..well since no one really cared to answer my question from the get go and everyone just wanted to argue screw this post. All I cared about was finding out info on Skunk2 and Ground Control coilovers. I only wanted to find out about the ride and camber. I have made my decision on what to purchase.
