hey, it's easy enough just to reach from under the passanger side and plug the thing in, right?
SO NOT!

Jesus I spent about 15 minutes straight trying to plug it in. I looked at a pic of the rear of our radio then figared how I would have to plug it in. I then dropped my gauges under the radio and went in that way. Oh crap....or did I go from the top.....now I'm not sure. I know it wasn't fun.

So you ran that thick data cable all the way to the radio from the trunk? (wow)
The car is pre-wired, according to the installer. He had installed 45 min. after I dropped off the car. Did you not get the free installation certificate?
edit: Oh, and my friend's Maxima came prewired for X-M, as well.

O/T i have sirius in both cars

on the camry, we have that ugly ass huge antenna on the trunk. on the P5 we mounted this antenna on the dash. on the drivers side, next to the vent. i'd say the in-car antenna is about 90-95% of the trunk mount antenna, reception wise. but w/ the added stealth factor it's well worth it. our camry was broken into and H/U stolen. that antenna is a magnet. they know it's got a decent stereo if has sat. radio.

the wiring is very thin so all you really see is that sqaure. our "brain" thingy is under the drivers seat.

just my $.02

I just got home and found a nice UPS box waiting for me. The antenna is really as small as previous pic shows. Now I have an excuse to F around with my car this weekend.

OK folks, the tuner I got is a SIR-KEN1 model. The back of the package says all the Kenwood headunits it's compatible with. Our head unit is a KDC-MP919 if I'm not mistaken. This model is not on the list on the package I got.

I don't know about you but I don't want to go digging under my dash just to find out this thing isn't compatible. I looked on American Satellite's website, Sirius's website, and Kenwood's website and found nothing conclusive. If anyone else has gotten this tuner, have you had any problems?

damn it, apparently they tried to deliver to my house today but nobody was home to sign for it, so they're gonna try on monday to drop it off again and nobody will probably be home again. sweet. i shouldve gotten it shipped to my school address

Hey, I can't help you with your question, but does the SIR-KEN1 have a pass-through for a CD changer or Music Keg? I plan on getting both sirius and a music keg, and that pass-through is one of the things I liked about the original tuners they were giving out.

After consulting the manual, it says it's compatable with pretty much any Kenwood headunit that says Sirius Ready on the front. I think I'll be ok. I would be installing this thing right now if my car wasn't covered with snow. :(

I got it installed and activated. So far so good. It's really great being able to tune radio stations and not hear the crappy chatter of lame DJ's and morning shows.
For a trial period I'm keeping the antenna inside the car. So far it works fine. I doubt I'll be mounting it outside the car.

I got a call. They said mine would come in 2 to 5 business days. I didn't order till around January I think.

I got the call as well...well technically my friend did...I called them back from Canada and they are shipping the unit to my friend who will in turn send it to me...!! Not too many of us in Canada can get this service so I am pumped !

That's cool. The first line in my directions is:
"The antenna has a magnetic base and must be installed on a conductive metal surface on the outside of the vehicle."

I have the Terk SIR-Mini

I'm sure reception will be better ourside the car but it's nearly perfect inside. I don't want to mount this antenna on the roof for so many reasons.

I don't think my antenna is a TERK because it has a Sirius logo right on it. It sure is mini though...like half a golf ball. Right now it is just lying on my rear deck because it was getting cold and dark by the time I had the wire run to the back seat. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the antenna through the little baby seat attachment hole. Then it's some double-sided tape and I'm all done.

For future installers, it is much easier to pull the headunit out a few inches to plug the tuner wire into the back. I used two butterknives to free it up because I wasn't lucky enough to recieve headunit removal tools with my car. I would have photographed some steps but my camera is being borrowed. There is really no need though it's quite easy.

just got mine today...woot! where'd you mount the tuner crock? how long does this take?

I'm not Crock but I installed mine under the pass seat with the velcro. It's solid and does not move around when spirited driving. The whole process really didn't take that long.

:werd: I stuck some sticky velcro circles under the tuner and slapped it under the passenger seat. The hole that is already there in the carpet was perfect for running the wires from the door sills. The velcro sticks to the carpet like a M-er F-er and that box isn't moving at all.

I ran my antenna wire up under the rear plastic and it's right in the middle coming out of the babyseat hole. Reception is great.
