Sirius XM issues on a 2019 CX-5 GT

I have a 2020 GT Premium that I negotiated a nav card for. It started with travel link active but trial must have ran out and it is gone. When travel link was active I had the OP problem but since the trial ran out I do not believe I have had a failure since...
Free Travel Link on my 2019 Reserve runs for 3 years.
The 2020 Signature product description page confirms it should be the same for your car.

It's interesting that Travel Link might be causing issues.

Mine is a GT, not a reserve and window sticker does not provide travel link or nav. It was one of the first 2020 GTs and I do not think it was suppose to have travel link but when the dealer put in the nav card it came up, my guess it prep people did not know it was dropped in 2020 GTs...

Oops. Boy, can I space out sometimes.

So the card got you the Traffic Sign Recognition and directions on the HUD, huh? I really like the HUD. It's part of what sold me on the CX-5 when I started looking in 2018.

Travel link may indeed be the source of the slow or no loading of the Sirius XM. Since I disabled all alerts from travel link in the settings menu; I have had no problems loading Sirius. Here is what the manual, has to say:

Since SiriusXM Travel Link®receives data from geo-synchronous satellites and the data is transmitted at preset intervals. When the system is loading the SiriusXM® data in the background, there may be occasions when the SiriusXM® function is waiting on data before it can be accessed.

That's interesting. I'll have to make sure mine is disabled, since I don't ever use it out here in the sticks.

One of the reasons I upgraded from 2016 to 2020 was to get the HUD, I love it, I have one on my 2000 Corvette but the new one is so much more informative with speed limits, blind spot monitoring, directions, status of lane monitoring, and vehicle ahead for radar cruise etc.

Oddly I havent had an issue with XM Travelink in a few weeks now. Lots of short trips recently and no loading issues.
One thing Ive been doing recently is leaving Mazda Connect on the radio screen and on AM/FM.
Load issues previously happened when I left the screen on NAV at shutdown or on my thumb drive.

Maybe shutdown on the Radio AM/FM screen is less taxing or just glitches less compared to shutting down and restarting on the NAV or Thumb drive which require more stuff to occur faster upon car startup.

Maybe I can find a pattern lol.

What settings menu is it in? I looked at the Sirius/XM settings menu and didn't see anything relating
to traffic. Is it in the Nav menu somewhere?

Go to applications; travel link is at the top of the list. Select travel link and unchecked all the options.
See this link for the video:
Hope that helps.

In the NAV options there is a setting for using traffic. It used to be called Historical Traffic and is a checkbox that can be toggled on or off. Turning it off removes XMtravelink from overlaying the stock NAV with traffic flow data.

Good news! Its not only CX5's having this issue........ Ugh.

Saw a member on the Miata forum, with a 2020. He's been having the exact same XM load issues randomly. Mazda dealer replaced CM receiver/updated software etc, still happened.
He then disabled XMtravelink updates and that "fixed" the issue with XM radio not loading correctly.

More evidence there is some software glitch going on with the XMtravellink implementation on Mazda Connect systems throughout the lineup.

Where the glitch is (Mazda connect on the car or Sirius XM software communication on server/satellite end) is unknown.

This essentially is a slam dunk that when the free 3 year subscription of XMtravelink expires I won't be renewing.

I'm experiencing a pretty annoying issue with Sirius XM on my 2019 CX5 GT: upon starting the car (and waiting about a minute or so for the boot routine to complete) Sirius XM will not always work and the screen will display a message similar to "Siriu XM channels unavailable". In 80%-90% of the cases Sirius XM works. A few observations: if I select anything on the infotainment menu before allowing the system to finish the boot routine it's almost guaranteed that Sirius XM won't work and will display the above message.

I suspected an antenna issue of some sorts but while the system displays the unavailability of Sirius XM channels, I have no issues tuning into the, I think free, Sirius XM channels - there are about 10 free (?) channels upwards of channel 310.

Resending the signal request doesn't fix the issue. The only procedure that helps sometimes is turning the system off and wait for a few minutes, but again it's a guessing game if Sirius XM works after that. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

Worth mentioning is that prior to my CX5 GT I owned a 2015 Mazda 6 GT and I never ever had an issue with Sirius XM in that car.

I called Sirius XM about this and, as expected, they said the issue is not with them but rather with my unit in the car and I should raise this with Mazda.

Following that advice, I had Mazda dealer update the firmware to the latest one available but that hasn't fixed the issue either.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Any thoughts?
I've had the same experience a couple of times with my 2019 CX-5 GT. I just select some other function and then go back to XM and it works. I'm thinking that the antenna is not very good.

I made the trek down from my mountain Fortress Of Solitude yesterday to do some shopping at a nearby town. It was about a 60 mile round trip with several stops and restarts of the engine as I was running errands. The Sirius XM failed to load from the time I left home to the time I returned home. More and more I think the problem is at Sirius' end and is combined with some incompatibility with Mazda's receiver and software.
I am going to try disabling the Travelink feature and see if the instances of XM not booting up go away.

Hope this is true! See email from Mazda Corporate below:

got info that a new update is forthcoming; no details; hopefully a fix for the Sirius issue as this firmware is for NA only:

70.00.367 has only been release for NA so far, and we have no release notes.

I pulled this image from a Japanese blog (https://kblognext.com/archives/7226.html) that shows firmware release history and which markets they are for:

I shut off the Travel Link program in my CX 5 and Sirius XM has been loading just fine for the last week or so. A couple of days ago, I turned the Travel Link program back on. And Sirius XM has been loading just fine.

So I don't think it is the Travel Link that is causing a glitch.

2019 CX5: My XM radio is not reliable, I never know if it is going to work when I start the car. This occurs whether phone synced or not. Problem started when we purchased but we assumed it was XM, but it is not. Also, it recognizes phone but will not show phone numbers, past or present. Navigation system is impossible, especially to escape from it. Just had the dealer check it with scheduled appt, he did not have time for full diagnostic. Did not correct issues. Have to bring it back to get it evaluated again but problem lies with info package. Mazda need to find fix.

Many people. Get your Dealer to Install the latest Updates. It fixed my issues after over 16 months of same issues. Good luck!

Good information about the SiruisXM unavailable issue, and proves I am not going nuts!!! I have the same problem on my CX5 Reserve, and recently had the service department update the software for the in-car entertainment system. It made no difference, and 2 times since last week after the upgrade have seen the fault. I have not looked at TravelLink yet., but did tune OFF the HD RADIO, as that seems to block SiriusXM totally. I even had SiriusXM resend the authorizing signal, and no luck - can be done through you account online. I believe it to be the antenna or perhaps the satellite signal tuner/converter, and I know the service guys do not believe me. I now have a video showing the problem and the high order channels that can be tuned to so I can prove it. Sometimes, I cannot get channel 0 for the ID without getting an error message on that as well!!!
