Sirius Tuner Question...

Recently bought a 07 MSP Sport and want to have my sat radio. I see the Mazda unit is $350 which seems like a lot. On the Sirius website is a tuner (SC-C1) that lists for $49.99. Anyone know if this tuner will work with the stock HU and keep the controls from the steering wheel? Also, can the sat antenna be routed through the stock unit? I dont want to have another antenna outside if I dont have to.

not sure. give them a call. but i would honestly just buy an regular unit and hardwire it into the car and to the back of the headunit. easiest way.

No, sat signal cannot be routed through an am/fm antenna duh... We are talking about sat radio. Not some dumb crap coming off the ground in low freqcy's. Signal is a direct link to the sat. I have mine routed on the top of my dash to the left. With the extra wiring tucked inside the steering column on top.

Search the threads on this I have pics of what mine looks like and I think its the best value and works 100%.

Do you loose signal at all with it being on the dash? i just picked up a sat radio and dont want the antenna on the car if at all possible...

Negative. To be honest I was having problem with sirius. I have the s50 and they changed the antenna. So the old one I had was going out and I was loosing signal. After replacing the whole receiver and dock with another antenna, which was the same, still teh same problem. Then they sent me another car kit and I noticed that the antenna was different and poof... Signal again.

I had it mounted on the top of the roof approxl 2" away from the front windsheild and routed the wire along inside the liner of the windsheild.

But then decided to mount with some velcrow and taped it to the dash on the left side. Signal strength is good.

No problems yet...

so is there an antenna i should ask for so that i could mount it on my dash? or is it just the newer antennas that it comes with that you had better luck with?

Right, if you buy a portable receiver then it will be a regular antenna. Either way you will have an antenna to place outside of the car or where you choose.

I had borrowed a friends tuner (XM) and drove around with it for a few days. I had the antenna sitting on the passenger seat: no issues at all.

I think it depends on where you are and what angle you are to the satellite (I'm in Windsor Ontario, basically Detroit).
