since when is this music

Talib Kweli, Common, Mos Def, Jurassic 5, The Roots, Method Man, Rakim, Tupac, Nas. I like other rappers but those are some of my top ones. As for music goes, I listen to just abou anything, prefering metal and rap over the rest, but I am eclectic when it comes to music, but I dont consider this video to be.

nothing is as bad as chicken noodle soup.

but yea, immortal technique ftw. some of his messages are a little strong/farfetched but it's mostly the truth.

awesome line up. throw in some tribe, q tip, dialated peoples, and alkaholiks and youre good.

It isn't music...it's a yell-a-thon. ANYONE can put together a rap song as long as they have the capability to yell about bitches, hos and money. There are no melodies...there is no vibrato. There's just computer generated background noise accompanied by yelling. There's nothing exceptional about it.

With the exception of instrumentals, music involves actual singing. Having the ability to hit and hold a note is quickly becoming a lost art. This is just an endurance test for the nerves.

Only one thing in your quote was correct and that was, " it isn't music". The rest was stereotypes.

lol so true

One could easily argue that a bunch of rockers yelling into a mic is not music.

but you have to admit, rap music is much more synthesized than rock. in a rock band, multiple people have to play instruments in unison. the lyrics and melodies are much more creative.

in rap, all you need is a person who can rap. he doesn't even need to think of good lyrics, just the same old ones that rappers have been using for 10 years. the rest is just computers.

The fact that Solja Boy sucks has nothing to do with genre. I listen to damn near everything there is: Rap, Punk, Metal, Jazz, Electronic (including drum & bass, hardcore, gabber, jungle, house, trance), industrial, Reggae and on and on...

This song sucks. I don't even consider this the same type of music as Biggie, the roots, meth, red or any of the others mentioned. I thought the same thing when "Laughy Taffy" came out...

Metal guitarists, drummers, bass players are ridiculously talented. In metal, provided you seek out quality stuff, you will find some of the most gifted musicians on the planet playing some of the most technical s*** you will ever hear.

Other than really gifted freestylers, rap has no such characteristics. Rap is for mass consumption and people who like to dance at clubs.

Exactly. I wouldn't even consider this rap or hip hop and it is annoying how people associate this as being it when its not.

I agree with the first half of your post, but disagree with the second half. Like most types of music, the best stuff never makes it to the radio. There are dj's out there that would blow your mind. Nevermind the producers that never play at concerts, dancers, etc.

At the risk of making a cheeseball comment, I'll try and be as "cool" as I can.

Music is art to me. If it inspires thought or emotion, I like it.
The video in the first post does neither.

Music also has a certain nostalgia for me. When I hear Flag, Threat, Fugazi, Bad Brains, and few other bands from that time frame, I think of trips to DC and Georgetown when I was a younger teen, hanging around outside the clubs because I wasn't old enough to get in. Got in to see Rollins though, I was old enough then.

I fell head first into the whole shoegazer movement of the late 80s early 90s. While it was quite a departure from the bands I liked earlier on, it invoked emotion rather than thought. Curve, Ride, My Bloody Valentine to name a few.

Throw in Joy Division, Bauhaus, the smiths, Love and Rockets, Echo and Bunnymen and a whole slew of other bands from that era and you've only got about 25% of the music I actually like.

To me, hip hop and rap was good back in the late 80s and early 90s. Gangster rap made it all suck. Except for one album. Dr Dre's the Chronic. I still like that album. Doesn't make me think, but has the bit of nostalgia that I latch on to.

listen to that garbage than listen to this

The artist is Immortal Technique

Very controversial....Almost scary how they made Washington DC look like a demonic pentagram. Also how America will go into Marshal Law I hope that doesn't happen, or I die before it happens.

All I have to say is Formulate your own opinion......We are indeed a corrupt nation.

Its annoying how people think there opinion is the best. Just because you don't like his music and you don't think its rap, doesn't mean it isn't. Songs from soulja boi and other people are made to dance to, not to sit around and critique. The song by Immortal technique is good if people are in the club or wherever and want to dance, they aren't gonna play Immortal technique. There are different kinds of rap as there are different kinds of rock or metal.

Then they should stop playing it on MTV...(band2)
