Silicone Spray for door gaskets

:
2015 CX-5 GT AWD w/Tech
Good day,

Wondering if anyone uses silicone spray once a year for all the rubber gaskets around doors, trunk, etc?

I had a vehicle for 12 years and did this once a year but after 10 years the front door gaskets started sagging at the bottom - not sure if it was the result of the age of the vehicle or the silicone spray.

Thanks,
Paul

I have used Silicone spray on my cars and have not had problems. Sounds like the little clips that hold the door gasket on failed, or the glue quit.

A better product to use would be 303 aerospace protectant. It's made for just such applications and can be used on pretty much all of the exterior and interior trim to help keep them fresh and protected.

I've never put anything on the gaskets on any of my cars over the last 30 years, and I've never had a problem. On the other hand, I can see how there might be some benefit but I'm not sure how much.

Chevy recommends a light cote of dielectric grease in their service manual.

Thanks - the old Blazer gasket clips were good - sagged in between the clips - bugged me a bit because you could see it from the outside with door closed but it was an old vehicle by that time and some things just go.

I'd like to get the 303 for other parts of the CX-5 but it is hard to find in Canada for some reason - want to check a marina or two this summer, otherwise need to order it online. I think I'm going with Robert and just see how it goes - I wipe the gaskets off everytime I wash the car. Save some time and use less chemicals.

A lot of camping stores will carry 303 as well as it's used on all sorts of outdoor stuff, campers, kayaks, you name it. I know the last bottle I bought was at CampingWorld and the most recent one was from Ace Hardware.

+1 on 303 products. Sprayed 303 protectant in both Mazda interiors. Have not sprayed gaskets but that would be a good idea too. I heard some people even use it on tires. Purchased from Cabella's in the boating section.

Another vote for 303. It's great for interior and exterior plastic pieces since it is has UV protection and not greasy.
