Show me your CX-5 wheels

My TSW Interlagos wheels. Kept the 19" size, and the wheels came in 8" width so I could keep the stock Toyo's. I do wish they had a little more contrast for the mirror cut face...
Look great. Nice to see that not everyone is falling for the black wheel fad.

black wheels are neither new nor are they a fad, on the other hand most of the wheels I see in my daily commute are "silver".

Black plastidipped factory wheels is a fad. An ugly fad.

Oh wait... I have those. For now...

Want to talk about played-out, I'll give you played-out:

Over 80% of CX-5's I've seen have the silver 17" wheels. I suspect that predictable trend is same across the entire US. Now how freaking boring is that. (And I live in a import-rich environment with plenty of modded cars and SUVs.)

Sorry if it seems like I'm gloating, but when I got to the stealership (or anywhere I've been complimented) people are not commenting on my car because it's just another stock cx-5, they comment on it because the looks how it looks (black wheels included).

When I was growing up, chrome "mags" were the style. So when I see the soul red color, I see "bright shiny" as the style I wanted. Actually wanted chrome, but couldn't find anything lightweight and not "murdered out as was so properly pointed out. These rims were under 22 lbs each!

Bill, these really look nice on your SR! I'm a fan of chrome and polished wheels, and like you, grew up on that style. Personally, I don't generally like black wheels only because they give the car that "base/steel wheel" look. However, with the lower black trim I think dark wheels go well with this model. Now, if I can find some gunmetal/hyper black/black chrome/anthracite wheels that look good to me, I may pull the trigger. Btw, are those chrome rings around your fog lights? Unique!

I would have liked if my rims had been available in gun metal rather than silver with the polished face. That would have matched the trim, but that combo was only on the nuburgring style but I liked the simpler spoke style. Good luck on searching for wheels, I spent weeks looking at a lot of site with wheels! (My wife used the word "obsessed")

The rings are stainless, and I got them (and outer rings that I haven't put on) from a Chinese vendor on eBay. I can send the link if anyone wants. It was from an earlier thread here on the forum.

Yeah charcoal or gunmetal would be my #1 choice but I like your look too. I have the triangular outer stainless trim but not the ones around the lights themselves. I plastidiped half of them for a different look. Would you mind sharing which site you purchased your wheels from?

P.s- I too, like the Nurburging in Gunmetal or bronze. Got my eyes on them. (eyeballs)

I actually got my rims from a local store that matched the best price I found, and also transferred my tires to the new rims, balanced, etc, included. I actually got a very good price from Rodrigo at Font Motorsports, and I would have bout them from him, but the local shop did a great job.

There was a Mazda 3 (pre-2014) parked outside my office for a few days, and it had Nuburgrings in gunmetal/mirror cut face that looked sharp. Its rotary forged too, so it will be lighter than the stock rims too. I preferred the spokes to the mesh.

Besides, how else can you show off our puny brake rotors? :-)

I've got to paint my calipers like you did. I have the paint, (and the mazdaspeed stickers), just not the time...

I agree with you about the puny brakes, especially when one upgrades to +1 or +3 wheel sizes (20/22). Those wheels exacerbates the issue. Like rear camber arms, it would be nice to have big brake options. I still have to paint my rear calipers, and like you said, no time for me too. If you saw my pics, I painted just the caliper and pad (for more of an OE type look), but they're so small looking that I think I'll go back and paint the brackets too. But, with your wheel setup, the painted calipers will show through much nicer than my stock wheels.

I'm with paris on this one. Then there are the blacked out tail lights also.
I will paint my wheels most likely red or some red accent, just to be different. I'm not even a youngster either and I'm not afraid of colors. I like to be different then others, I'm not going for iPhone, iPod and so on, like everybody else either.

I definitely am in favor with being different (if you saw me you could tell that immediately (rlaugh)), but almost all the time I will first go with function over form first (and the iPhone and iPad works!) And, while I'm in favor of colored wheels (not white, black, grey or bronze), just be warned you may be classified as those youngsters who also favor colored wheels. They're recognized as "ricers". Now, I wouldn't call red wheels ricey unless you added unfunctional gadgets, but some may. But each their own and I hope yours comes out clean and attractive! (drinks)
