Should i Purchase a magnaflow cat back EXHAUST

im in socal as you are, I do fine with a testpipe (removes 1 cat) and both resonators and muffler taken out with straight pipe in. Sounds badass. Its not unbearable by anymeans, sounds powerful as hell.

for the $80 i spent for muffler shop to take out the resonators and muffler and weld in straight pipe, its 10 times less than what the catback would cost you.

i started with 1 out, then wanted more, then got the next out, then wanted more and got the final one out. I really liked it with all 3 out, but got the testpipe and it was obnoxious at first but calms down and you get used to it. sounds bitchin.

CPE TBE all the way.

The racing beat exhaust looks sick too.

The Greddy Ti-C and the HKS are a bit too ricer racer for me.

sorry i have not been on the forum i had s*** load of midterms and paper and i think people did not understand what i meant about the 800 it for both my car and his car together so it 400 for the speed3 and 400 for the sti so am not getting rip off.

And also it come next monday cant wait to install i be putting pic and also diy as well.. (butthump)

I agree with the posts that say that CBE change will not increase power unless you are heavily modded. I won't get in the "ricer" debate. That's subjective.

What is objective is flow rate. It is fact that the stock exhaust flows more CFM that our exhaust manifold and K04 turbo are capable of pushing through the system. This is true even with my mods - 3 inch pure uncatted DP and uncatted RP. I still run the stock CBE. Reason: The restriction is upstream of the CBE - in the DP neck (real ugly angle and shape) and in the two cats, which are not true high flow cats. Until you get over 300 whp, changing the CBE is not going to produce any more power. It just will not. So, fixing the DP and eliminating the cats or going with high flow cats will make more power. A different CBE will not and could actually decrease power.

The poster who did a comparo dyno with the CBE on and completely off is absolutely right. Now, if and when you go radical with a bigger Garrett turbo with matching intake tubes and intercooler, and take the time and money to custom tune for these changes, no change in CBE is going to make any more power. Period.

So pick the CBE you like and do it for the sound you want. Don't expect power gains with subsequent mods unless they are very radical ones that wil get you over 300 whp.

Edit: Power issue aside, Magnaflow makes very high quality products. It will look good and last forever.

i just installed my magnaflow on saturday and it is definitely a nice change in tone. probably not too much power increase in any cbe by itself but once you get that dp in you will feel it.

for anyone else who might be searching for a good place to buy magnaflow exhaust for ms3 check performancepeddler.com, they have it shipped for $370 everyday price. good luck with the install if you haven't done it already, pretty straight forward just have a saw ready to cut the stock exhaust out!

Good, high quality product. Excellent design. Since it has the sound you want, it will definitely make you happy.

However, I'm afraid I must burst your bubble regarding gains.

I'm running a 3 inch catless DP and RP into the stock CBE on the exhaust side and a 2nd gen MSCAI on the intake side. I've done tests with the CBE connected to the RP and with it disconnected and hanging from the RP back flange. I get the same 10.5 second 30-100 mph times, consisently, hooked up either way.

So, I can't see how you would be able to get a gain from the Magnaflow CBE unless you are very, very heavily modded and putting out more than 300 whp. It would probably do a world of good with an upgraded big Garrett turbo, a big FMIC and proper tuning, but it would take something like that on the intake side to get above the CFM flow rate of the stock CBE.

Sorry.
