Should I fear the Zoom Zoom Boom?

First I want to say, wow, I f*cking love this car, and I'm sure many of you will agree. This is also a vent, but if anyone has any information on why zoom zooms go boom boom, please let me know.

Now I want to say how paranoid I am of my engine blowing up. All I keep hearing is this person blew a motor here and that person blew a motor there. Some were stock, some had a few mods. Heard about one today with intake, downpipe, and fmic (my next planned mod). Driving at low speed, low rpm, no boost, BAM!

Since I am making payments, I clearly lack the money to rebuild or buy a new engine should something catastrophic happen. Mazda, I'm sure given the state of my car, would send me the bill instead of picking up the tab themselves. I hate to think that this car is so fragile!!

Part of me wants to put the car back to stock, trade it back, and pray to recoup some of my money. THE PROBLEM IS I REALLY LOVE THIS CAR!! But I hate feeling like my motor is going to blow up randomly for no reason. What am I to do??

I dont think it should blow up stock since it's running pretty rich........

On a side note my friend destroyed a built 03 Cobra motor why? Cuz he tried to save money and didnt tune his car properly

Maybe you should have thought this out before investing in mods, not to be a dick just saying. But good luck with everything as long as you have a good tune you should be good, but then again you never know a moded car is a moded car.

always keep your stock parts just in case. I think you'll be alright though.

Yeah these cars seem to blow like hot cakes once you get into modding them past an intake. I would have 5-10k set aside just in case if I was going to MOD this car.

how bout a fmic and a intake no tune? will it blow

I am sure you will be fine. And as far as the guy stating that anything besides an intake will blow it......come on man!! Obviously there are plenty of people with intakes, exhaust, turbo inlets and FMIC's without any problems. Just remember that people are often quicker to complain than they are to praise. How many members out of how many cars sold have blown their engines?? Maybe 1% if that.

Holy crap I'm tired of these threads. Please count up all the blown motors. Then count up all the cars sold, modded, etc. When you get your .00x percentage wake me up, wtf.

Am I the only one not aware of engine's blowing up? WTF? I would expect these things to be farely reliable!

I am definitely starting to believe that they weren't made to mod too heavily..

plenty of people with mazdaspeed3s and mazdaspeed6s have blown them up. how else would i make a living? kidding on that, however there have been more than a few blown motors, not what i would call an epidemic. depends on what you do, with what mods, at what boost and how you drive it.

I never had either... I know of a guy around town who is running 30lb. of boost. I don't know what all he has done to the car, but he hasn't had any problems. I'm assuming it really is luck of the draw.

short block is close to $3000 new
long block assembled is about $8000 new

Are you serious? Man, I should stick to V8s. Too expensive to put together a 4 cylinder!

I wanted to buy mine without a warranty since I will eventually crater it. And I'm not one to commit fraud by claiming I didn't modify it.
