Ok sorry if this topic has been discussed many times already but im too lazy to search :D

im looking into buying a SS for my MP3 and was just wondering if there are any CONS about it....... i heard somewhere that the synchros wear out faster?

And also...... is B&M better or is Kartboy better?
Pricewise and performance wise......

Any help is appreciated :)

Short shifter, I haven't had any problems with mine. It shifts nice and feels great. The shifter bushings made the biggest difference.

I would personally go with the Kartboy parts. They are machined well, looks beautiful, feels great. Nice parts.

I have the B&M, and due to the way its made (its a one piece design) I like it better.....there are no welds, no possible alignment issues when the pieces were put together....etc.

Both shifters do the job.......so it boils down to personal preference once again.

I have

the B&M SS because I wanted a shifter that replaced the entire center bearing and all. I do, however, have the Kartboy Shifter Bushing.

Besides, I more of a name brand kinda guy.

Regardless of what shifter you get (Kartboy or B&M) spend the extra ca$h and get the bushings too.

LOL yes.. Kartboy is a brand name.. they usually make stuff for Suby Imprezza's but they made a shifter+bushings just for our cars!!! WOOHOO!, i have the KBSS and Bushings and it feels great!!! $115.00USD shipped to my door.. amazing deal! and i live in CANADA!

Ummm, Kartboy is a name brand...

Sorry. Never heard of Kartboy until I joined this board.

Winner's Choice is a brand name for Sear's Tennis Hoes but I prefer Nike. :D

Don't get me wrong. From what I have seen so far Kartboy products are high quality stuff. I will definitedly keep my eyes open for future products.

I agree that Kartboy makes some great products. I'm eager to see what they do for the Protege next.

However, I went with the B&M for a few different reasons:
1) I bought before the Kartboy was available
2) However, even if it was available when I bought, I'd still prefer the one-piece design.

Like I said though, Kartboy does good work. I'm very pleased with my shifter bushings. Bottom line: it's great to have these guys working in the Protege community.

ok, i havent got either the bushings, or the short shifter from kartboy, and i dont have a sorht shifhter at all...however, i believe that i WILL go with kartboy. simply because they took the time to really care for US, and give US what we want!!!!!keep it commin KART!!!!!!

I think any protege shifter will pretty much fit any other protege. I got a p5 shifter for my MSP, the only thing was the stock knob didn't fit for me.

Btw, I have a p5 kartboy SS for sale and a stock MSP shifter(not sure if this is shorter than other protege's)

If you like the stock height, then B&M is for you.
If you like shorter height, then karboy is for you.
Either way, they are both short, and when I tested the kartboy shifter in TxMazdaSpeeder's in OK City last year, personally, I thought I didn't really notice much difference.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let you know that we offer a shifter specific to the MP3 so that you won't have to switch out your stock knob. The thread pattern and "shoulder" location (which holds up the shift boot) are different between the MP3 and the standard Proteges.

We're also having a sale on Protege shifters right now so you can get for $102.95 shipped to your door.

Check it out at: http://www.twmperformance.com/shortshifters/mazdashortshifters/mazdamp3shortshifters.htm
