Short Shifter and Clutch

Anyone know where I can buy a good short shifter without a burden on my pocket? I am also in the market for a new clutch, trying for a stage 1. Anyone have any good ideas for that as well? Thank you so much.

see edit above. sorry i linked the wrong one.

hey i have the mazdaspeed shifter if you want...i dont think its a short shifter coz its juz shorter than the regular protege/protege5 shifter. not sure if it would fit yours..anybody can chime in to correct this.

not bad for a homemade short shifter.. isnt there more to a short shifter than just the height reductions.

YES. there is more to a short shifter than height.

the overall throw is shortened with a short shifter. image a see-saw. when you have the pivot point in the dead center of the see saw, both ends move the same distance. if you move it towards the right, the left side swings up and down a lot further, and the right side moves less. this is what a short shifter does. it moves the fulcrum up the shaft of the shifter, causing the area under the console to move further than the area above the console. this give you less distance to move the shifter to cover the same distance underneath. make sense?

yeah i knew that... i had my research done long ago.... more of a statement for the guy with the homemade ss. but thanks for the info never the less!(first)

i just bought a fidanza short shifter for 1999 protege 1.6L for $46 from titanmotorsport.com (in orlando)...if you look for it on the web site, look under the ford section (escort=protege)..the ref is 886920. good luck

I asked Aamco about the SS and if it caused any extra wear on the transmission. Because of current events and my differential going and messing up the transmission. They said the SS has no negative affect to the transmission, the bottom part of the shifter still moves the linkage the same distance as if it were a stock shifter. So it just shortens the movement on the top part of the shifter by moving the pivot point. Maybe someone has more info, but i kind of trust Aamco over any place around here, after the Mazda dealer said there was nothing wrong with my car when it wouldnt shift into 2nd, 4th, or reverse when a piece of the differential blocked up the shift linkage.

hope that helps a little. btw, i have a b&m shifter and it is awesome.
