ok so heres the deal...i have a heavy foot and i often try to get as many cars as i can to race me at street lights...so when i shift i shift around 6rpms into 2nd would be ok to go a little higher like 6.5 - 7 or should i keep away from the red line. i dont want to hurt my engine but when i get into 2nd i dont feel like i have all the power i could be getting out of my little 4 banger.

I shift my Hiboosted 02 P5 right at red 6500 where my rev limiter is set.

Just try to be smooth with the clutch and shifter. Not sure how strong your tranny is but mine popped and I had to replace it. Motor can handle what you can give it stock just be smooth and gentle like you would with the ladies!

get a dyno of your car and where you make the most WHP/WTQ that should be your shift point. To go past that would actually slow you down becuase your not making anymore power after that...

thx for the help guys...i actually raced an esclade and a acura 3.2cl and beat booth of them, they werent off the line but i was surprised that i pulled away from the acura...esclade didnt shock me. gonna go dyno my car asap and see what to do, thx a bunch

Ugh...street racing = awsome.(notcool) End yourself, now.

Has it occured to you that the people that you're 'racing' may not be thinking the same thing you are?

Has it occured to you that stop-light racing is idiotic, makes you look like a complete tool, and is a great way to turn a pedestrian into chunky kibbles?

Has it occured to you that you may want to go try drinking Drano?

plz dont lecture me, you are not my relitive. keep your 2 cents to yourself thanks...all i asked was something about shifting not your info on how stupid street racing can be. but thanks

If one acts like an ass in public, he can't then be surprised when someone calls him on it.

Regradless of what the subject of you thread is, you were boasting about your adventures in the fast-paced world of stop-light street racing. Don't get your panties in a twist if people come in here and point out how utterly moronic street racing is.

no, we arent your relatives thats right, but you give a bad name for those who put lots of time and money into cars and race legaly on safe roads.

You make the rest of us look bad cuz other people will automaticly assume we are the same as you. Its sad but they do.

Dont race on the street. Your making us all look bad and irresponsible.

Racing was the cool thing to do the first week you got your first car, then most of us realized it was dumb and very unsafe.

Once you lose a loved one to a dumbass driver who was going too fast to see what was going on, your view on things tend to change. And dont say you know what you are doing, cuz it doesnt matter when some innocent kid runs in front of your car while you are trying to be cool by street racing.

The MZR 2.3 revs to the rev limiter pretty freely. If you're out of break in period feel free to shift at the redline.

And I'm not going to diss you for stop light racing. There's a difference between stop light racing and street racing. I often race people from stop lights up to normal driving speed just because it's fun and I can do that. Hell, I often do it if no one is there, just because I like driving like that and I'm not worried about mechanical problems on my high mileage 12 year old BP-05s.

Pretzel, he asked a question, and it wasn't "what are your thoughts of stop light racing" so go elsewhere. You failed to even address his question.

Mick, only superficial, shallow people even bring up how what one person does in thier similar car can affect how society views the car as a whole. Drive your own car and shut up. I'm sure anyone objecting to Illusis's driving style wouldn't transpose that on other Mazda 3 owners. And the fact that you think he'll change his habits because YOU might look bad is just insane. Go for a drive and leave other owners alone. As Pretzel, you've also failed to address Illusis's question. And don't bring in personal stories, fake or not, trying to make a point that is redundant. A kid running infront of a car on the street is NOT INNOCENT. He/She was failed by thier parents and/or is too dumb to realize consequences. NEVER EVER growing up did I venture onto the street without looking. It just never happened, I knew better. Any kid that runs onto the road is careless and endangering thier life as well as people in cars. What if the kid runs out there like a dip head and the person in the car swerves to avoid little retard Timmy and hits another car. Why should drivers have to risk thier own life's to potentially save the life of a young imbecile, just so the kid will do it again one day and be killed. It's the street for a reason, there's cars there. It's not a playground.

so if you hit a kid you would feel nothing just cuz you werent that dumb as a kid and it wasnt your fault? There are a million ways to twist this argument. But the fact remains, street racing is dangerous.

And sure, if you just want to get up to the speed limit quick, thats fine with me. Nothing wrong with that at all. I do it all the time. Im talking about balls out street light racing where just going to the speed limit isnt the name of the game. I have a feeling this kid isnt just getting up to the speed limit like you are talking about.

ANd i dont give a s*** that im not answering his question, it sounds to me like he is doing somthing illeagal and there are laws for a reason. (which you obviosly dont seem to get) Its for our safety and the safety of others.

Drinking even one beer and driving is dangerous but I'm sure about 85% of the people who are on the street racing bash commitee do it once or twice a week.

I never said that I stop light race to the speed limit. My normal driving speed is 10-15 over at all times(traffic/conditions permitting).

Speed limits are meaningless. You're basing your argument on them, look at it this way: Little Timmy walks out on a 45mph road. A hit is a hit, you get hit at 20 you can easily be killed, but what if the person was going 55 on that road, what about that? If they were going the speed limit and dumb Timmy took a stroll out there he'd be killed anyway.

If the person is going the speedlimit or less, and kills Timmy, is it thier fault? No. It's Timmy's fault because he lacks common sense. It's the "survival of the fittest" game, and Timmy just got a "game over" screen because he didn't know how to play the game. That's not the driver's fault, the driver can't change their style, and they shouldn't.

Some speed limits are good, others aren't needed. Speed limits on highways aren't needed, most people ignore them anyway, and the people that go by them cause more problems than the people going "fast".

This argument won't end, and you didn't need to come in here and police someone over it. Furthermore, it's the internet, who knows if he's telling the truth? What if he's making it up? What if he says he does that but really doesn't? "You don't know him".

And my section of the forums was so nice and quiet...

You guys get one more post to speak your mind and then please take it somewhere else. There is already a thread in the street racing section that covers this topic. Now, to the original poster...you are not getting off on the right foot here. Right out of the box you say "i have a heavy foot and i often try to get as many cars as i can to race me at street lights". I can't even begin to describe the mental image I have of this. No wait...it reminds me of these idiots I saw last year in a Sunfire that were intentionally trying to race everyone they got beside. Even if they had been in a fast car they still would have looked like jackasses. The problem is not that you street race, as far as I'm concerned, but the fact that you actually are the stereotype. You're a quantity, not quality racer which is pretty unrespectable even among your fellow street racers.

my $.02

I thought of a good analogy just now.

A slut...just substitute racing cars with sleeping with guys and you get my point.

oh...and just to answer the real question you asked. Apoc was right on...and don't worry so much about the rev limiter...it's there for a reason. But be careful with repeated stress on your car. It might get a vinereal disease and those aren't usually covered by the warranty if the dealer can prove that you didn't use a condom.

what are you racing if you cant figure out where to shift

the acura was sleeping .. and i wouldnt go fast by an escalade cause if it bursts into pieces it may scratch my ride

OK, here's my last "speak my mind" post in this thread.

While Illusis might have started the topic "wrong", he asked a question and DID NOT ask for other people to tell him what he already knows. He's an adult, he makes his own decisions and drives as he sees fit. We all do. We don't rely on other people to tell us how to drive unless they have a badge, and even then most of us return to driving as we were once they are out of sight. I've never been pulled over in a car(I was on a bicycle, buy a Crown Vic on the street...long story) even though I drive fast ALL the time. I see triple digits nearly every time I'm on the highway(traffic permitting), I blast down on-ramps shifting at the redline, and I fly around curves at my tires' limits. I don't need virtual Ned Flanders telling me how I should drive, nor would I ever just say "oh, you're right! I'll drive as you want me too.". No one would change thier habits just by reading what some supposed "law abiding citizen" wrote on the net.
So why don't you people just keep your thoughts to yourself unless the poster asked to hear about it. He asked a mechanical question which several people turned into a bashing/schooling session that was a waste of everyone's time and energy. All you had to do was either answer his question or move on, but noooo you gotta chime in and "change the world", something that you'll always fail at.

Why do it?
