Shifting is poor when cold in Auto trans

Hi, My protege5 has 123k km on it and it shifts hard when it's cold, about -20 at the worst, and I was wondering if a synthetic ATF would be better for my next change and if having a nice red color ATF means it's still fine.

Color isn't the end all, it can be clean & beyond useful life. Funny thing, mine shifts better in manual mode when fluid is colder. Running AMSOIL syn atf & a cooler on mine. Longer intervals & cooler fluid is better for tranny.
