Before I begin, I'll just say that I have Kartboy bushings and a TWM short shifter. When I first installed the short shifter, I had issues with the heat shield (which still aren't resolved, the spacers they provided didn't do the job, either did bending it since there's such a small margin of error to work with).
What I'm wondering about here isn't the heat shield rattle.. it isn't a rattle at all, it's more of a buzz/whine. When I first installed the TWM, it only happened if I pushed on the shift knob while I was driving (nothing happens if I'm idling/stopped). It progressed to the point where if I at all touched the shift knob it would make the whine. It's a weird sound, and I'm thinking maybe the bushings are causing it, because it sounds as if all the sounds under the hood are being transmitted to the shifter. About a week ago, I was driving down the road when I heard a sound that made me want to pull over and call road side assistance. I was afraid that for some reason my tranny was gone (this is my first manual tranny car). Actually, for anyone who knows, the sound was VERY similar to the sound that the auto locking hubs on my 4x4 truck made when they wouldn't engage properly. The thing with the sound was that I don't think anyone outside the car could hear it, it was just being transmitted to the shifter.
should I just uninstall the short shifter and reinstall it and see if it continues? I could always install my still in box B&M but I really wanted to sell it (since it was backordered for so long I ordered a TWM).
Does anyone else's shifter make noise when you push on it? Also for anyone with a TWM did the supplied spacers work? Mine sure didn't do it, my dad made me some new spacers but I didn't get a chance to try them out yet. I just got the idea today that I could probably get the kartboy exhaust hangers so that my exhaust doesn't move as much and hit the heat shield and then I can bend the heat shield closer to the cat or whatever it is that is directly under the shifter.
