Shift Linkage, Clutch, and Transmission/LSD Problem???

Yes you must get a G15M-R trans from a 2.0L protege or 626. The newer the better, the 03 or 03.5 had an upgraded shift fork. Yes you have to swap the LSD if you buy an open diff trans and it is recommended to get the LSD welded however i'm sure a new revised version of the stock LSD will last you just fine even if you intend to build the car. The stock LSDs have a horrible rep since they frequently failed but the revised versions made after 2006 don't typically fail.

if you get a used trans and are not gonna use your old LSD. recommend going with an M-Factory LSD. and search the forum im sure there are a few (MSP) trans laying around if you just want to drop it a trans in and go.

Buy a used protege transmission and an MSP LSD if you want to go with an LSD (you do not technically need one if you just want to get running again). Will not be more than around $500 for both. Putting an LSD into the transmission is not a huge job but takes a bit of patience if you have not done it before. The transmission swap is very straight forward.

So apparently, the Mazda Service center randomly got a used MSP transmission in with 115,000 miles on it which they said they will sell to me for $1900+6% tax
$345 to install it and the previous labor of $920 for the previous transmission tear down. So Im looking at ~$3300ish just to get it driving again. I have a 1 year warranty or 12k miles whichever comes first.
I definitely need to work on my own car from now on the military base Auto Hobby Shop... LOL
The part should arrive by the end of the week Saturday should be out of the shop Monday or tuesday

$3300 for a used trans?? honestly youre better off sourcing a used trans online somewhere. ebay, or in the for sale section. $3300 = built engine and semi-built trans.
