Shift issue when cold

I have a Mazdaspeed 3 that I purchased about a month ago, I have noticed that it seems to shift hard between 1-2 and comes out of reverse hard when I start out cold.. This is not an issue when it it over about 20-30 degrees outside, the last couple of days it has been 11 degrees when I leave for school and this is when I notice the issue. I have had other manuals act sluggish when cold but this one seems to be harsher than anything I have driven before. I have always driven RWD trucks so I am not sure what I should expect, any help or tips would be great!

Thanks bud, my first post on here and I didn't see the one below. Guess I have to play on here more figure out how things work
