I just dropped my Speed of today for a dead sub woofer, noisy driver side PW and for the infamous hesitation = Mazda's sorry ass fuel map. My car runs great some times, but more often then not it runs like crap. I barely pulled on an MP3 the other day in the hot sun. Im getting Pissed with this substandard tuning & performance! Thats why my s*** is sitting at the shop right now and I have to drive an auto Protg DX. Hell the DX runs just as good when my Speed is on the rag! Sorry, but at some point we have to vent about the Bad hand that Mazda / Calloway dealt us. UHHHH! I'm hoping that Mazda really will have a new map to flash that ECU with in two weeks, cause I honestly dont even what to drive it the way it is. Well on a lighter note, maybe they will let me roll in this automatic Protg Dx for a few weeks and save a crap load of miles.

sorry to hear that man. you could always trade it in for an 03 DX 5spd, and then get a BEGI kit. be faster then an MSP

I too just got back from the dealer for hesitation and stalling, this is the outcome.

First, the tech said he was familiar with the stalling/hesitation issues, and in fact the new yellow 3.5 on the lot stalled during a test drive. He would call Mazda and find something out. He went to test drive it, as I find out later he reset the ECU first. Suprise, no stall.

This is what he wrote:

"Issue one - hesitation: check for CEL, no codes stored. Check MAF, TPS and fuel/timing. All ok - Road tested vehicle, operating as designed. Customer is experiencing turbo lag. ALL SPEED CARS HAVE THIS - Talked to tech assist with Mazda, was told they are looking into a fix for this concern - will send out a bulletin when fix is approved. Road test 5 miles.

Issue 2 - Stalling: Check for codes, none stored - called tech assist for further info. Need better description from customer. INSPECTED MAIN RELAY AND HARNESS, INSPECT ALARM AND IGNITION WIRING - No concern found at this time - unable to duplicate customer concern at this time. Road test 5 miles.

Please note: Customer has added a turbo timer to vehicle, concern nay be related to the install of this."

How can Mazda be looking into a fix for this if it is normal turbo lag? bulls***. Turbo timers can cause engine RPM to cycle from 500 to 1700 for thirty seconds and then the car dies? Check the harness - jackasses. Check the fuel and timing? Asked for a description of this procedure, well, they check the computer, and it had no codes. Put it on a wide band and you'll see!

So I wasted a whole morning at the dealer. I plan on going back each week until it is fixed.

No stalling troubles. And the hesitation (stumbling), I have learned to somewhat accept. I won't go for a partial fix, however. I want all or nothing. I'm content.

I still haven't installed my Joe P XZ manual boost controller. That ticket, I guess, took the air out of my balloon. Ha!

I havent had any stalling problems, but the hesitation in the FL. Hot weather happens more often then not. I dont want to have to drive at WOT all the time, that kinda bites.
The Mazda service dept. is blowing smoke up my ass about car right now. Trust me I feel the same way, fix it right or take it back and give me an RX-8.

This is the reason I'm sticking to calling this problem "stumbling" vice "hesitation" now. Too many people confuse hesitation with turbo lag (BTW these cars have very little turbo lag IMO). Our cars are well into boost when we feel that eerie little intermittent lost of power. My CAI didn't solve, didn't even put a dent in it. Weather doesn't appear to be a factor, it's doing in near 90deg weather the same as when it was 50deg outside.

I'm like ARG#7, just biding my time until Mazda figures this one out. It sucks, but I'm not buying a Band-Aid to fix the problem. It's their responsibility, let them fix it.

I agree, which is why I did not buy the CIA. They say its ready, but that Mazda has no fix so far for the stumbling. He did how ever give me a case number for that complaint.
He said my sparkplugs were clean and showed no evidence of running rich. Well see what happens next.
