she just wont stick

:
Black Mica Speed #538
well last night i raced my friend who has a wrx with mbc and full turbo back, i knew i was gunna loose but i figured hey why not try, since i just had installed my ebc at 10psi, well we ran 4 times, 1st time i just wouldnt stick to the ground i launched at 3000rpm and then quasi skipped through 1st gear and chirped in 2nd, 2nd run launched at 2800 same thing, 3rd time 2500, not as bad but still skipped through 1st, 4th time i launced at 2000 and feathered the clutch and skipped a little bit, i dont know what im doing wrong but i just cant get her to launch right or stick, any advice would be appreciatted, and i know im gunna get flammed at for racing but this was on an abbonded road at 2 in the morning, oh and he had his turbo timer on and he ran a 13.3 and i lost by 3-4 car lengths almost everytime, so we figured im somewhere in the mid-to-high 14's sorry for so much reading

Or you could not burn up your clutch  and safely mess with your tire pressure. Some people have either reduced it or increased it (not sure which, you'll have to search for "PSI" in the mazdaspeed section) and they said that helps out a lot with wheel hop. Also, the 10PSI may have something to do with that.. ;)

I was being sarcastic about burning the clutch. I wouldn't change tire pressure unless I was at the track, which he was not.

I've actually increased mine some since I run through twisties pretty much every day going to my other half's house. No problem whatsoever.

im not about to mess with the tire pressure seeing as i drive for a living could do more damage then good at least i think so this is my 1st real gung ho hookin up car

ah screw fuxin with tire pressure, what ur doing wrrong is ur launching full throttle u cant do that in these cars without wild mad wheel hop, best thing to do is take off almost like u normally would easing down on the gas dont just slam it at take off. to be honost, boosting at 10 - 11 psi my rpm go up just as fast at 75% throttle as they would at full throttle, sept full throttle ur gonna get wheel spin. u dont wanna break loose alot, just ease in the gas at take off trust me it'll be much smoother, and if the person ur going agianst spins, oh look you dont and ur prolly half a car or more ahead of them by that time. then every consecutive gear u can slam the gas down all you want.

There should be no wheel hop when you launch correctly. If you need new mounts and are getting the mad hop then you aren't doing it correctly.

Rev it up to about 4 to 5k under only partial throttle, let out your cluch quickly but smoothly... No "dropping the hammer" or "beating the monkey" or whatever it is you kids now adays call it.

The point to a smooth and fast launch is to get the car into boost as fast as possible without bogging the engine. In these cases wheel spin is your friend not your foe. You should have the wheels spinning just slightly faster than the car is traveling for the first 20MPH. Not excessive wheel spin... no smoke or stupid stuff like that. But you should be keeping the wheels slightly ahead of the car.

No need to burn the clutch, no need to HOP HOP HOP. OH and increased tire pressures does help. You are NOT going to pop your tires with 40PSI... hell when we autocrossed the bridgestones we'd have them up to 52PSI all the time and forgot to lower them on the way home quite a few times. Its safe as long as you don't leave it that way all the time.

anyone experience a LOT of trouble getting the car out of reverse?? sometimes it gets stuck when i try the 3rd gear too.. maybe im jus new to manual? it's jus kinda weird sometimes its like something is blockin me from shifting (and yes, the clutch is down :)

No s*** sherlock!Read my posts on my new track time!I can't get traction to save my life!It really suck big goat nuts!I will be investing in a set of slicks for my next track runs! There is no doubt the the pro with boost is not meant for the track!you will get mad wheel hop or mad wheel spin!Either way it's gonna kill your ET's!
Matt:p

I'm sorry bu tno matter what any one says trhe MSP's have either a lot of wheel hop or a lot of wheel spin!Either way your gonna lose time !
Matt;)

the key to good drag racing time slips/launching is to slip the clutch a little, not pop it. which most people usually do. this of course leads to killing your clutch a lot faster but it's up to the owner of the car. as DISTANTTEA had mentioned, a small amount of tire spin is your friend, this will help spool the turbo.

besides, your racing an AWD car... they'll usually always get you off the line anyway.

I wouldn't call it a lot of trouble getting into reverse, but yes. I 've noticed the MSP is sometimes will not go into reverse after being parked/sitting for a few hours. Easy fix is to just put the car in first, ease out the clutch just a hair with a little gas, not enough to move the car, then put it into reverse. Goes into reverse fine after you "wake it up" . ;)

The MSP isn't the first standard I've driven that has a problem with reverse from a cold start. My 1994 Chevy S-10 does the same thing, I've owned various standard trucks and cars over the past 20 years that had the same issue with reverse from a cold start. I've gotten so used to it, I really don't think about it.

I haven't noticed any other tranny issues with my MSP.
