Shame on Me!! Street Racing the T-Type is bad...

I posted this over on another site the other day, I figured you guys might like to read it as well. I hardly ever even speed on the street, but I guess I just had a momentary surge of testosterone or something that afternoon... lol. Anyways, here it is...

On Monday afternoon (I've been to busy to post, ) after work I decided to take the T-Type out so that it will have been driven at least once this week. Anyways, I stop at the gas station and put half a tank of 93, Adjust the wastegate back to my mark at ~20PSI, check the tires and head off for a few miles of cruising just to keep everything in working order.

Anyways, I ride over to a four lane road (HWY 18 near Jackson, not that it matters) and decide to drive to a small town (Raymond) about 10 miles away. There is hardly any traffic, and on a long straight stretch I decide to let loose a little boost, you know, to clean the carbon out. Well, I run up to about 80 and back real quick, and decide that was enough. While slowing back down to set the cruise, I notice a Black mustang in the mirror coming up pretty fast. As it gets closer, I notice that the front fascia looks somewhat different. I am by no means a mustang or cobra expert, and at first glance thought it was a newer GT.

The driver (a girl about my age in scrubs) and the passenger (a guy the same age) pulled beside me in the left lane to pass and goosed the throttle about half way through passing me. That got my attention, and when I looked over, I noticed the badging identifying the car as an SVT Cobra. The cobra bucked (I am assuming a downshift) and roared off a few carlengths ahead... The exhaust note was oh so smooth, and pretty damn loud. I apply a little throttle and catch up to give the couple a thumbs up for their display...and VRRRooooom!

She goes WOT! I think... hmmmm... for about a second and then go WOT myself. Within a few seconds I catch up and then give a thumbs up to the wide eyed passenger... as I slow back down to the speed limit of 70. They slow as well, as the passenger is rolling his window down motioning for me to get beside them. I get beside them and the guy yells "Holy s***!! WTF is that thing?" I yell back "Regal" followed by "Want to run at the next light?"... They look at one another and the guy yells back while smirking "No problem..." It took about a mile before we met a light, and we both had to slow down to wait for it to change.
What happened at the light was my favorite part.. besides listening to her rev it slightly and listening to the blower/exhaust combo, we had the following conversation:

Scrubs: "Are you sure you want to race? I don't want to hurt your feelings?"
Me: "Yeah, I'm sure..."
Scrubs: "I'll give you headstart if you need it."
Me: "Nah, I'll be ok."
Passenger: "You're not running nitrous or anything are you?"
Me: "Nope"
Scrubs: "Don't cry when I beat you."
Me: "I'll try not too. *While laughing*"
Passenger: "We'll go to 100, ok?"
Me: "Yeah, but my speedo only goes to 85..."
Passenger: "85 Then..."
Scrubs: "I'll just be getting started then...*Smiling*"

When the Cross lights turned Yellow I brought the revs up to about 2K Rpm's and waited with boost at ~6 PSI. At green she did a really nice clutch dump about the same time I released the brake. She pulled about 1/2 car through her first gear, incidentally about the time I built full boost and started into 2nd. From there, about 35 MPH, I started to pull at a consistant rate. When I hit 85 I had about 3 cl's I guess. When I let off at 85, she went screaming past me still at WOT, and the Cobra sounded better then any car I have ever heard. The blower was screaming a high pitched whine, and the exhaust sounded perfect, Very, VERY badass. It gave me goosebumps, literally. hell, it's still giving me goosebumps just thinking about it again. *Shiver*

At any rate, they slow back down and wait for me to pass, then follow me into the parking lot of a used car place. They were cool people.. She had the car for a month or so, and says she is addicted to it. The guy was still pretty confused about the T-Type, even after I showed him the engine. She took it well, and said she figured I had a fast car if I was going to even try and run against her's. I sat in her car and really liked the instrumentation and seats, Very nice! (Well, that and what they showed me under the hood) *DROOL* They said my car looked like an old person's car, and said the inside was ugly. I agreed, and told them I bought it for speed not beauty.. lol.

They were headed towards a community college in Raymond where I was headed a few miles away, and the guy asked it he could ride with me there to check out the car. Anyways, we made another run from about 60MPH, and I really laid down the power then... From that speed I put a lot of distance between us in a matter of seconds. In all it was damn fun, and I made some new friends in the process. We sat at the cafeteria talking for a while about cars and such. I told them about XXXXXXXX.com, and that I would post the story, (By the way, Hi Jason and Michelle. ) I hope they come out here and see it. Anyways, enjoy.

Gotta love taking the toys out to play. I think I am going home tonight and pulling the beast out of the garage. I have a 93 Lightning. I love seeing peoples faces when they get busted by a truck.

I just love sleepers. I had a friend in high school that had a Syclone. I loved it when he would obliterate rednecks in there souped up Camaros. They never had any idea that that truck was fast. I remember one time he race a Corvette from a roll on the highway. He pulled up to it and went ahead then behind just toying with him at first. Then the guy in the Corvete had enough and mashed the gas. My friend dumped it in 3rd and left the Corvette like it was standing still. At the next light, the corvette finally caught up and couldn't believe he just got beat by a truck. He had no idea about the Syclone or the Typhoon. He got a quick lesson in the world of turbochargers.
