Ok, so I'm looking into winter tires for my car. Decided that I'll just get the tires and then pay $10/pop to swap the stock ones on the same rims.

Discounttiredirect.com has these tires:

SEMPERIT SPORT GRIP
195/55HR-15 B

For my Protege for $69 a pop, and free shipping to boot. Has anyone heard anything about these tires? Looks like a wikkid deal, if the tires are good that is...

Otherwise, tirerack has Pirelli SnowSports for $89, but w/ shipping the total will be more like $400.

Semperit is a Scandinavian tire, Swedish I think (think snow). They have been around for a long time too. About 30 years ago, Semperit got a very favorable review in a Car & Driver tire comparison. I don't know about these specific tires, but I believe Semperit would be a good choice for winter tires.

astral, these are what i got my sister last year for her protege. she likes them. they are similar to my top-grip tread.

hers did not wear nearly as much as mine have so far. she also gets over 40K for her sp5000's which i get about half that......
