Selling my beloved Mazda 3 (BOO HOO), what to expect? Need some wisdom.

Our family has grown and we need a 3rd row car and it is which much regret that I must sell my beautiful 2005 mazda 3. (sob sob). I'm going to attempt to sell it privately and have done the Kelly Blue Book research and looked up current prices but everything for sale out there doesn't seem to compare what I have. It's a hatch (s?) fully loaded. Leather, Xenon, Nav, moon/sunroof and has an aftermarket Viper car starter. It has just under 64,800 miles and seems like everything else out there has 100k+ priced at $7900 but are missing all the features of my car. My car also has minor scuffs and dings on the outside, but nothing that can't be buffed out. I have a price in mind since we're purchasing a CX-9 and even though trade in would be easier, I know one can get more for their money selling privately. Just out of curiosity what can I expect from a trade in at the dealer price wise? Wondering what others have experienced.

Thanks so much in advance.

Dealer will be happy to offer 4k$, it will be hard to get above 5k$

Thanks for your reply!

Dealer offered me $6k. I so sweetly replied, no way. Got him up to $7400, so for convenience I decided to accept. I pick up my new CX-9 tomorrow.

Fantastic! I was way off! ENJOY! That will be quite an upgrade going to the CX-9!

In the future always remember that what your doing is broken down into to seperate transactions. 1st Buying the new car and determining the cash out the door price. 2nd now that you know the cash out the door price you begin negotiation on your trade. That way you can see what its value is to the dealer.

Yes, former car salesman here, NEVER let them do the two together. ALWAYS do it separately. Get a low OTD price, cash price, although Mazda does not make you finance through Mazda to get rebates like some companies. Get the lowest price including Tax Tags Freight and processing fee. The will show you a super low price, but they take out what they are going to charge you on freight. Are you looking at a new CX-9? I can tell you what to expect to pay, let me know which model and packages you are looking for.

I have a 2006 Mazda3 s 5-door (not nearly as loaded as yours, no sunroof, cloth seats, but I still love it) and I also bought a new 2012 CX-9 GT FWD last November.

Which CX-9 model did you get? Color? Are you loving it so far?
