seafoam

when i pour seafoam into my pcv there is alot of smoking coming from my engine bay. Is that normal? I thought the white smoke would come out the exhaust. Now that i think about it i've been smellling exhaust fumes in my cab all the time. I've went back and tightend everything and checked for cracks or holes on the exhaust but i still get the fumes in the cab. Any ideas?

how do you find exhaust leaks by using the seafoam via the PCV valve? what do you look for? I think I have an exhaust leak but don't know where it's coming from, so hopefully I can find it when I do the seafoam.

When my wastegate actuator went bad, I had the same problem...

Really? Can that also be the reason my car boost to high even when i have my boost controller off? I have a avcr and when i turn it off so that its stock boost, my car still boost around 9psi. Any who, i have to take a look at my wastegate

We use SeaFoam to find exhuast leaks by doing the cleaning through the PCV Line.. You will see it come out of all of your leaks if you have any. You should only see it come out of the back exhuast pipe if you see come from anywhere else them you have a leak there....

we had even totally stock MSP's show extreme leaks....

You will want to replace all exhuast gaskets and buy new manifold bolts and then use the proper two stage torque spec tightening for the manifold an d follow the right tightneing sequence for the bolts....

we have done this a million times down here ;)

Thanks for the tips. Hopefully i will get a gt28rs soon and i can do all of this as well. Do you use oem gaskets or something else?

thanks apoc, now I'll be sure to take a look along my exhaust piping and check all connecting points of my exhaust.

I'd guess that's the case. Not 100% though

finally used seafoam. i picked up a can in the summer, but never used it until recently. but not in my PCV though, just in my crankcase before i changed the oil and the rest in my gas. i will try the PCV method next time when i have somebody helping rev the gas. :) i have noticed a slightly smoother idle, but not by much. i will prob notice more of a diff when i do it through the vac lines.

Don't put it in your crankcase before oil changes if you are turbo-ed although it says you can. I use to do it and idled for 10 minutes then changed the oil. My turbo has developed a slight whine. After pulling the compressor housing and s-pipe off to check for damage and found only a slight burr on one compressor blade but filed it off and only .010" of shaft play (good!!) and sound reduced to barely audible but is still there. After pm'ing Juan from Hiboost he said out of over 400 IHI turbos sold has never had one go out. He said that the Seafoam could have slightly damaged the bearings. That's enough for me to never put anything in there other than Mobil 1 from now on. I do regularly use it thru my intake and gas tank. I did find several exhaust leaks through the intake.

thanks for that info. if i do develop a slight whine, i'll post up. but nothing has happened so far. i will try it through the intake and see if there are any leaks.

I've put in my crankcase on more than one occasion and so far have not experienced any problems or turbo noise. Without a doubt for me, the most effective treatment is pouring it in to the PCV vacuum tube with the motor running.

slowly but surely is the way to go. You won't need someone there to step on the gas pedal.

Sorry about the rejuvination of this old thread but im wandering if i only pour the seafoam into the PCV valve hose, do i need to change the oil after ???

Thanks.

That's only if you put it in the crankcase and not recommended in the crankcase for turbo'ed cars at least not my IHI turbo since it uses ceramic sleeve bearings and I found this out the hard way since it whines now. You will want to be able to suck it up a little at a time because it will try to stall so tapping on the throttle cable will help. I change my plugs after since it can sometimes foul them out.

i aint turboed...:)

my engine has 82k , and a rough idle...and some carbon buildup (i can hear a slight valve tap)

so would this help valve tick at all? i have rediculous valve ticking sound. well at least thats what my friend said it is. or does it have nothing to do with it

I thought all Mazdas had really bad valve chatter. Its just the nature of the beast as far as I know.

I just tried seafoam, and now my idle is retarded. It idled smoothly from last year when I cleaned the EGR until yesterday when I seafoamed it. Also the car is sluggish up to 3500 rpm where there is a surge in power (similar to the feeling of vtec actuating). I would figure that the EGR just got clogged with crap again, causing the poor idle. However wtf is causing the power surge @ 3500rpm?

Any ideas why I'm getting such poor results?

You should change your plugs. I think the can says that it could foul them out. I seafoam just before I change my plugs and never had any problems.
