I have the same prob too. I noticed it ever since i bought the car. I got hardpipes so i know it wasn't a leak in the pipes. I have no performance loss either. And i have 27,000 miles on my car. I was thinking maybe running sythetic oil? I dunno though. It bothered me before.....but i've heard a couple other speeds with the same problem. And the yellow one i test drove did it as well? I dunno man. I only get it when i'm already accelerating then i nail the gas down. ? But when it makes this noise i noticed is when i usually get torque steer.jersey_emt said:I hear a random screeching as well. There's no oil or coolant leaks...oil & coolant stay full. No boost leak as far as I can tell either.
This noise incredibly annoying..I am growing VERY sick of it, it makes the car sound like a peice of s*** to be honest..Its actually quite loud with the windows down and I can't stand it..Someone please pinpoint this..I don't wanna hear no it just went away crap, I don't think everyone has this problem but the guys who do know exactly what I am talking about..I'd be willing to bet if our turbos were replaced for 100% perfect working order new units this noise would dissappear..And no way in hell is it the wastegate, the flapper arm moves 1 inch! BTW I have owned a ball bearing turbocharger before and did not hear any noise other then air being being rushed in through the impeller and exhaust..Metallic screeching is not normal for a BB turbo, but it runs fine so we'll just wait till it breaks.Geezer000 said:Wastegate......You'll notice that when the noise starts you'll drop about 1psi of boost.
I brought my car in for this problem also, but my car got broken into that night and my bowling ball stolen out of the trunk while it was parked directly at the front door of the dealer..They replaced the muffler with a regular round mazdaspeed muffler thinking that would be good..I said WTF is this s*** and came back a week later after waiting for the right mazdaspeed rear section and the car still made the sound and now my rear window rattling..I told them fix the window I am sick of dealing with it and haven't been back since..The good thing is that I am great friends with the service advisor and a few of the mechanics..They had their best teck look at it and he's been there well over 10 years with national awards and he thought it was boost leak or exhaust..I gave him some pointers on how to check for boost leaks and he looked surprised..So here I am with a new muffler pissed as hell it makes this horible noise..Mabye I will record it for you guys to hear..FrozenMazda said:I have the same problem too. It started when I got back from a 5 week field training assignment (couldn't bring the speed to Wyoming in Feb/Mar you know). the Mazdaspeed mechanic at the dealer said it's the ball bearings in the turbo and it's normal.
My problem with that explanation is that if I drive for say 30 min, the sound goes away and I get the normal whine sound (turbo, wastegate, ... whatever, but it's the sound associated with a turbo). At first I thought it was I wasn't letting the car warm up enough so I let the car idle for an hour once before I drove it to work. Well... I still get that noise, but by the time I turn on to the road leading to work, it's gone. :wtf:
I'm just waiting for something to blow under there. At least it's on record at the dealer that I brought it in and was concerned about the noise.
BTW... the car is stock (flashed... but stock).
