Screech sound on hard acceleration- has anyone actually identified source?

mine also has a screetch.. usually when its under heavy load (going uphill from a stop)

sounds like .. umm

errrrrk eeeerrrrkk..

usually two sounds.. kinda like metal scraping.

hard to duplicate it..

I hear a random screeching as well. There's no oil or coolant leaks...oil & coolant stay full. No boost leak as far as I can tell either.
I have the same prob too. I noticed it ever since i bought the car. I got hardpipes so i know it wasn't a leak in the pipes. I have no performance loss either. And i have 27,000 miles on my car. I was thinking maybe running sythetic oil? I dunno though. It bothered me before.....but i've heard a couple other speeds with the same problem. And the yellow one i test drove did it as well? I dunno man. I only get it when i'm already accelerating then i nail the gas down. ? But when it makes this noise i noticed is when i usually get torque steer.

hey i just thought of something. Is there any way that it could be from the engine jerking back when we take off causing a slight leak until the engine settles back down? I was thinking maybe getting motor mounts and see? I dunno....i'm gonna get motor mounts regardless just to make sure i don't pop a pipe out of one of the couplings on my spool pipes.

Wastegate......You'll notice that when the noise starts you'll drop about 1psi of boost.
This noise incredibly annoying..I am growing VERY sick of it, it makes the car sound like a peice of s*** to be honest..Its actually quite loud with the windows down and I can't stand it..Someone please pinpoint this..I don't wanna hear no it just went away crap, I don't think everyone has this problem but the guys who do know exactly what I am talking about..I'd be willing to bet if our turbos were replaced for 100% perfect working order new units this noise would dissappear..And no way in hell is it the wastegate, the flapper arm moves 1 inch! BTW I have owned a ball bearing turbocharger before and did not hear any noise other then air being being rushed in through the impeller and exhaust..Metallic screeching is not normal for a BB turbo, but it runs fine so we'll just wait till it breaks.

My MSP Goes in at 8 am tom. To have this screecching fixed/looked at. I have heard it for about a week. Mine is directly related to the turbo. I loose boost after 4000 rpm and it comes back in a little around 6. Most noticable in 2nd gear and a little in first. Very very very bad and very very annoying. the mazda mechanic who held on for "oh s***' during test ride to hear noise said it could be the waste gate or something related to loosing pressure. I am not very smart in this area. But I will let you know what comes out of Mazda mechanics findings late wed. night.

PS My car has less than 5000 miles so this is real annoying.

I have the same problem too. It started when I got back from a 5 week field training assignment (couldn't bring the speed to Wyoming in Feb/Mar you know). the Mazdaspeed mechanic at the dealer said it's the ball bearings in the turbo and it's normal.

My problem with that explanation is that if I drive for say 30 min, the sound goes away and I get the normal whine sound (turbo, wastegate, ... whatever, but it's the sound associated with a turbo). At first I thought it was I wasn't letting the car warm up enough so I let the car idle for an hour once before I drove it to work. Well... I still get that noise, but by the time I turn on to the road leading to work, it's gone. :wtf:

I'm just waiting for something to blow under there. At least it's on record at the dealer that I brought it in and was concerned about the noise.

BTW... the car is stock (flashed... but stock).

I brought my car in for this problem also, but my car got broken into that night and my bowling ball stolen out of the trunk while it was parked directly at the front door of the dealer..They replaced the muffler with a regular round mazdaspeed muffler thinking that would be good..I said WTF is this s*** and came back a week later after waiting for the right mazdaspeed rear section and the car still made the sound and now my rear window rattling..I told them fix the window I am sick of dealing with it and haven't been back since..The good thing is that I am great friends with the service advisor and a few of the mechanics..They had their best teck look at it and he's been there well over 10 years with national awards and he thought it was boost leak or exhaust..I gave him some pointers on how to check for boost leaks and he looked surprised..So here I am with a new muffler pissed as hell it makes this horible noise..Mabye I will record it for you guys to hear..

Mazda could not figure it out and screwed me by being lazy and thinking the flash for the ECU would fix the problem. I said screw it to pissed to talk to mojorons that do things to my car without my permission. Going to only other authorized mazdaspeed dealer in town on this monday to have the screech checked and a new rattle under the car, maybe heat shield. More info later.

yep, #399 has been doing this to me. surprisingly it hasn't been flashed or had anyy work done to it yet so I takled to my service manager and we'd setup a time to get the car updated. I'm going to have them check the wastegate and all the oil fittings just to be sure. the joys of ownership :)
