I noticed how easily the center part of the steering wheel gets easily scratched. Anyone else notice this and have a good fix to hide the scratches?

Did they change it from the 2013 models? Mine is going on 4 years old and no scratches. Maybe it's because nothing ever rubs on it. Are you using the steering wheel to bang on the bongos like a chimpanzee? (band2) Do you wear a wedding band while doing this? This is a mystery. (dunno)

I noticed this exact thing last week for the first time on my 2016. I jumped in while in a hurry and when I crossed over with the seatbelt the buckle grazed the center of the steering wheel slightly. But it left a permanent mark! I have some interior cleaning wipes I have been meaning to try and see if that helps.

That is wacky. I have the exact same thing and I have no idea how they got there. Nothing every goes in that area.

I think you guys have too much fun in the driver seat if you catch my drift. Theres more room in the back seat or the passenger seat for activities that involve more than one person.

Not dismissing you have some scratched trim.... I have lived through some very subpar plastics in my Infiniti. Fortunately Infiniti fixed it and all is replaced now.

So far...nothing in my CX has any scratches on it. Stock.... far more durable materials than a car I spent around 35% more for adjusted for inflation.

Hopefully dealer helps you out.

Same as the others, my scratches appeared <6 months and are permanent. I'm extra careful around the steering wheel now. That was one of the nit picking items I responded to the other day when Mazda sent me a follow up "owners survey". Easy wearing seat/steering wheel.

When I had my 2014 Mazda 3, some of the black plastic interior pieces got scratched all up. I realized my girlfriend's purse had square buckles, and if it just happened to brush upon the plastic of the glove box or surrounding trim pieces, a small scratch would appear. She kept her purse by her feet, so every time she moved it around it ended scratching one piece or another.

Had she been a bit more careful with it to prevent contact, she might have been able to prevent a lot of them. But I soon realized that was a fruitless effort to get her to change her behavior, as simple as it may sound. (The plastic bits in our 2005 Mazda 6 never scratched the way the newer plastic does. And she carried her purse in that car in the same manner).

The center piece of the CX5 steering wheel does appear to be the same material. And I'm betting a simple brush with a zipper, button or other metal object is causing your scratches. Luckily she hasn't scratched up my CX5 yet, not sure why, cuz she still has that same purse. Guessing the leg room is a bit more roomy, thus preventing a lot of the contact with the trim.

The only suggested fix I could ever track down were suggestions to use a hair dryer or heat gun to try and soften the plastic enough to try to form it over the crack. But then you run the risk of deforming other areas of the plastic surface. Ultimately I just left it alone, even as annoying as I found it visually.

The fix is to do what I did, go to the Coach outlet and buy her a purse that doesn't scratch your car, just nice leather, no bangles and buckles. Coach is a premium brand and girls like premium brands. The outlet is cheaper than the regular store, but she doesn't need to know. Or you could get a new girl friend.

Ha! A new purse is already on the short list.
