1999 Protege LX
How many people on here are from Saskatchewan? Lets get a list going of everyone that is on this site that owns a Mazda (doesn't matter what it is...Protege, Protege5, 6, 3, etc.). I know for sure that there is me (99 Pro) and Ghotti for sure. There has got to be more than that though. I seen one guy from Moosomin on here has a 3. But ya, if you are from Sask., lets hear from you.

Edit: This should be interesting. Hopefully there is more than 3 of us. (shady)

humm not looken good... might only be 3... ever see any other Mazda's there??

Ya, I see tons around here. Maybe I should start putting msprotege.com flyers on their cars or something.

Myself and a few Mazda owners here in Winnipeg started a Mazda Club. www.manitobamazdaclub.com

We have been spreading the word, membership is growing, but slowly. We are currently working with one of the dealerships to see if they can help generate interest for the club.

g/l with your Saskatoon group

Sweet! Where you from originally? I went to SIAST in the Jaw for 3 years. Not many of us Saskatchewanites on here.....good to see someone else. Even if it is only temporary. (headbang)

I'm originally from the big smoke... Toronto for the past 8 years, but I'm hoping to get out to the west coast.

Newbie here, just joined. Bought an 01 Protege LX 2.0 on Friday. Seems to be a pretty good car, all the research I had done on the internet spoke highly of them. Although on my second day owning the car, the Check Engine light came on. I called the dealer, he said to bring it in on Monday, they will take care of it for me. Hopefully. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but when I got it home, I checked the air filter, it was the dirtiest I had ever seen a filter be. So I put in a new one, and within 10 minutes, the CEL was on.

I suspect since the air filter was probably original, likely all other maintenance was also neglected, so I'll be changing plugs, AT fluid, etc.

I am very impressed with the handling of this car. Very sporty. Hopefully the mileage is good, that is the reason I traded my other car in(was getting mid-low 20's with it in the city, 28 hwy - 01 Taurus). From what I have read, Canadian users are getting well over 30mpg hwy (Imperial gallons). Correct?

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be talking to you all regularly.

Nice work on picking up that Protege. They are great cars, and this is a great forum. All the info that you need should be on here, and if you can't find it just ask.

Any plans for the new ride?

Well, my plans for now are doing some of the maintenance that the previous owner obviously neglected, changing all fluids, putting winter tires on this week.

By the way, Canuck Tire didn't have any 195/55/15 winter tires, I am getting 195/60/15's instead. A little bigger, but I think they should be ok. The car has enough power for slightly oversized tires, and clearance shouldn't be an issue for such a small difference. Plus, the car has nice aftermarket rims and a little more rubber between them and the road for the winter wouldn't hurt. Anyone else do this for winter tires?

Other than that, can't slam it or anything like that(although they do look good a little lower), is the main family car, so has to remain practical.

Hopefully the dealer can fix up the CEL today. Hoping it is just a dirty MAF sensor or something.

Later.

Hello

Well I am from Saskatoon and I have been trying for 3 years to find people from Saskatchewan that love Mazda's as much as me. Good to know that I am not alone anymore.

:) Yippie!

Handling (stock) (first), however, I will be improving mine in a couple months ;) As for mileage, I get an average of 29mpg city (summer, not winter) and anywhere from 33-36 mpg highway, depending on weather. The least little bit of side/headwind and the mileage goes down unfortunately. Congrats on the purchase, and you'll love it.
