yeh thats what i though.. the basical install and setup is the same, they just added features and redesigned the exterior......can anyone verify that it works on the msp, the shop im talkin to may let me wire one up and see if it works before i buy it but i dunno...thanks for the info hukster

No one will touch the ford ecu . It is propriatory and very hard to break the data stream.

The other option to look at would be Link. They are working on something that will be coming out sometime next year, I hope.

StuttersC...yeah Link is working on one...I have been contacting them for over a few months with triggering info and coil specs...
We were working with a simple plug and play adapter to run with a basic FS protege (no ABS or auto so far)...in which a router board would be used to convert the stock harness into an acceptable plug for the standard LinkPlus 2 controller...
But Neil (from Link-Electro-USA) started running the idea by a bunch of his engineers of a drop in mother board for the EECV housing...In which you would basically rip the board out of the stock ECU, and drop in the Link board...while cutting a small rectangle in the box for the PC cable...It would convert it into a full standalone, while using the stock box and harness...this setup is similar to what Keith has for the Miata's from Link...
both are no where near completion...and I have not heard back from them in since mid November...and they are not working with any cheaper piggybacks to my knowledge...

going off of what installshield said...last time I talked to Ken at FM/FP they were also working with Link to get a standalone made after the botched attempt at working with the stock ecu. he said they were shooting for late spring/early summer.

Yeah something definately will become available in 2004 I would imagine...I was just stuffed with school work, and couldn't dedicate nearly enough time to keep updated on what was happening...I simply called over the summer with some questions about their standalones, and how to make them easy to install...He just started asking for some more info on sensor types and triggering systems...and as i found stuff I reported to them...But He knew of Flyin' Miata, and commented that they were working on some sytems as well...So I then just tried to keep up with any advancements, and possible release times...I will try to get ahold of Neil this week for any updates...
but anyway, options are coming from a bunch of dudes...The link stuff is dirt cheap standalone wise (the base controller is around $590...full standalone, with plenty of ability)...Nick is working with some other companies, and plug and play setups too...These guys are the ones to follow...The last post from Nick (perfworks) confuses me a little...I don't know if the AFC-II mods he used crapped out, or if the sensor scaling is why it doesn't work on its own initially...and with the module he is using it does and will work?...he will post back with more info once he gets all the testing done I would imagine...

The last time Keith at FP mentioned the Link set up to me was after SEMA. He said Link is looking at getting the prototypes of the Protege set up to them by April.
