Rx-8

The RX-8 pulls 250 hp at 8500 rpm.. and it's 30% lighter than the 3rd gen RX-7. It's REALLY fast.

There are a few other differences between the Renesis and the Wankel:

1) The intake ports and the exhaust ports are both in the side housings, unlike the Wankel, which has peripheral intake ports. This means, basically, that there is no overlap. So, longer powerstroke and better heat efficiency (also better fuel economy, what do you know).

2) The intake ports open sooner, and the exhaust ports open later = longer powerstroke.

3) The Renesis is not as tall as the Wankel, which allows it to be placed 60mm closer to the center of the car than the RX-7. Hence, the 50/50 ratio mentioned in a previous post.

Remember that you are paying for R&D right now. ;)
So go out and buy those 8's... I read that if they go well, Mazda will be developing a new RX-7 for 2006.

All rotary-engine cars are Wankel. The renasis is no different. Thats the TYPE of engine. Renasis is just a different port design. Thats like saying a Otto-cycle piston engine from Honda is a VTEC.

so thats how they work...awesome...thats pretty neat...not to mention that website uses an RX-7 motor...

You complaining about the cost of an awesome car that starts at $25k? Have you looked at how much other cars cost lately?

We're buying one for Greg just because it's a new rotary car. The 4th gen RX-7 is MINE!! gimme about 4 years to pay off the miata and by then the new 7 should be coming out! :D

Gotcha. I was just going by what I've read in Car & Driver and other publications. They make it sound like the "old" rotary is a Wankel, while the "new" rotary is a Renesis. I'm sure you know better though, especially considering you don't know how to spell Renesis.

Sorry about the mis-spelling. I don't know everything about these cars, but I have rebuilt 3 engines(2 not being mine) and done pretty much everything short of bridge-porting. Technically you can make a 'Renesis' 13B-T with the new housings. There really is no major structure differences.

RX-7 will always be a no-nonsense, all out 2-seat sports car :)

actually in japan the some of the FD rx-7s have rear seats...it makes sense though that only small japanese ppl could fit back there...no wonder that didn't make it to the states...lol

but still with 2 seats or 4 the rx7 is still a pure bread sports car
