TPMS went off in the car on Wednesday. I checked all four tires and eventually found one with a big nail embedded deep in the tread. These were the stock Bridgestone RE-040s (225/45/18) that came with the rims when I purchased them. All four needed replacing so I knew Discount Tire wouldn't fix the tire with the nail in it. I had these rims professionally painted back in April and they've held up great up to this point.
So I went to buy some new tires Thursday. Got them mounted and found damage on three of the four rims when I got them back. Manager has been really good about things since I told him specifically to be careful with the rims since I had them painted not too long ago. He said the beading process is what caused the paint chip/flake off. I don't quite remember all that he said during the explanation since I was furious and trying to think of a fair resolution. So basically I either got a mediocre paint job or Discount Tire was too careless. Probably a combination of both IMO.
Anyways, I'm getting upgraded from the Falken 912s (225/45/18) to the Hankook Ventus V12s (235/40/18) and will get free mounting balancing. Manager was going to pay for 50% of the repairs (which would've been probably around $100 - $150), so I think the upgrade on the Hankooks and waiving the the M&B fee is sufficient. I originally had them mount the Falkens because they got great reviews and were on clearance ($108 a piece), but they winded up looking stretched and didn't have any rim guard protection. In comparison, the stock Bridgestones didn't look as stretched and had great rim protection. I'll bring the rims in on Monday or Tuesday to get PC'd and will hopefully have them back by week's end. I'm hoping there won't be any damage to the rims when I bring them in to have the Hankooks mounted.
CN: Rims got damaged during mounting of new tires; going to get them powdercoated instead of being fixed; manager upgraded tires from Falken 225/45/18 to Hankook Ventus V12s 235/40/18 and will waive mounting and balancing fee.
Here are some pics of the damage. Tires have been dismounted so they're ready for sandblast, powdercoat, and clearcoat. Stay tuned for pics of when I get the rims back from PC'ing and when the tires are mounted.
