RX-8 dynos 178hp

why doesn't anyone understand what ZoomZoomH is saying here? Get off your high horses people...you need to break the RX-8 in; if you're so impatient, then you don't deserve to drive or own the car..

i heard they run in pussy mode for like a certain number of miles, to break in properly, its funny, p5 has more torque< YAY

So what your saying is everyone should look for a used RX-8, say one with about 20,000 miles on it!! (shocked)

OR maybe you can skip over this loop in the software. The rx7 did not have this feature hank is talking about that is why they are not many 3rd gen around. Due to people not braking them in. When you buy top of the line cars like ford saleem mustang, corvette, bmw m3 they tell you wait apx such and such miles before you push them.

The RX8 isnt supposed to be a balls out sports car such as the RX7, its a everyday sports car pretty much

qwiksrt4 has probably been around just as long as you dood, he had an MSP, and then got an SRT, so he changed his username to reflect his new vehicle. He in no way said "geesh for that price, I'm glad I got anSRT4..." he was just saying for the price that is paid, that doesn't seem like a whole lotta power, for any car.

^^^
I thought that he had the SRT-4 and he's just now looking for an MSP for his wife. Besides...it wasn't an insult, just information that he may not have known. I thought that would have been clear w/ the GI Joe reference at the end! :D

And if he has been `round that long that he would have know the skittle/turd relationship, no? Anywho...I got the point of what he was saying. Hey Quik...when you getting back from your tour?

What a waste! Guys, if you want a real car, go test drive an S2000. The S2000 will kill the RX8 any day of the week.

And for any of you that say, "well I'll just put a turbo on it", Well, I can do the same for the S2000 and still beat the pants off the RX8.

S2000 with Comptech supercharger = 295 to 310 RWHP
S2000 with Vortec supercharger = 300 to 320 RWHP
S2000 with T3/T4 turbo with Emanage or AEM EMS = 350 to 400 RWHP
S2000 with built motor from Mike Simon and turbo = 450 to 500 RWHP

Any questions?

Now, if you want to talk about looks. Put the S2000 and the RX8 rear ends side by side and see how Mazda copied the S2000 Rear end. The front of the RX8 is just ass ugly in my opinion.

RX8 = waste of money unless you are just a die hard rotary fan.

Does this break in apply to the pro5 cuz I swear my car has more pep than it did two months ago. I have 29k on the car now. I put in a short ram 5 months ago. I have thought for awhile that it was just the weather or only in the start up periods where the air flow in the egine is turbulent. Lately the car feels stonger all the time. I dunno, but I like it.

The rx8 forum had talked about m3s and porsches and how the power to the wheels is being distributed by an electronic system which may not agree with how a dyno works, thus low results. So that doesn't apply to the simplistic p5.

and shem, stop spreading rumors without knowing the full story

If its a fact, it's not a rumor...

As for the ECU issue. It's your car. Mazda shouldn't be controlling and forcing you to drive it a certain way.

You pay for it, expecting to receive something thats not there, and then told how to drive your own car. Sounds like Mazda isn't to sure on their reliability to take precautions like that.

But, if it is true that they have a "safe mode", then they(Mazda) are protecting themselves from dealing with warranty work ;) 20,000 miles does seem a little too long though...maybe it's 2,000.

Exactly! Half of these cars won't even smell 20K miles IF the break in is that long. They seem to be bought by older males who are using it for weekend pleasure instead of daily driving. I know for sure that if I had a RX-8, I will not be driving it daily. At the MOST, 3 times a month....lol

But like I said, I still love this car because it's so beautiful.

why shouldn't they if that's the PROPER way of breaking in a rotary engine???????

if they didn't put in the 'safe mode' and a lot of people end up with inproperly broken-in engines and they blow up, whose fault is that then????

obviously it won't be the customer, because the customer is always right!

why wouldn't people drive this car daily? If it was designed to be a weekend toy then it wouldn't have THOSE REAR SEATS.

this car is a TRUE 4 SEATER with TRUE SPORTSCAR driving dynamics.

I know when I get it it'll be my only car/daily driver, and I will be racking up miles VERY quickly :D

Would it not be wise to turbocharge a high compression ratio engine like the Honda S2000 (BIG-BEN!!), RSX-S or the RX-8? The s2000 and RSX-S have 11:1 compressions, the Mazda Proteges have 9.1:1. In reality, I think boosting puts a lot of engines on fairer ground. Then, it's the rest of the car, and driver, that prove their worth!

Id still rather pull into my driveway driving something with a mazda symbol rather than a honda symbol.... Lets talk about upgrades, Pettit Racing's RX-7 Banzai 550 HP

i don't want to have to wait until 6000 rpm for the fun to begin. i've already owned one rotary, i'm seriously considering another.
