Rust !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone experience rust on the disc brakes? I live on the coast, but my car has only 4000 miles on it and I keep it in the garage , so I think the rust is abnormal. I guess I will check with my dealer and see what they say. I have not noticed any rust around the chrome trim. It just bugs me that a brand new car would have rust already. My Volvo has no problems with rusting!

Majority of rotors on OEM vehicles are steel, hence they will have surface rust. This will happen even after you wash your car and spray a little water on the rotors, it happens that fast. It is not a big issue, more of a visual eyesore than anything else.

To date all my vehicles have had their rotors have rust on them:

01 IS300
05 350Z
05 RX330
06 Mazda3 Hatch
07 CX-7

Only my 06 STI had to a lessor degree rust, however the brake pads were horribly dusty and even after driving 1 mile there would be a ton of brake dust on the alloys. I'm pretty sure it was the pad material because my 350z had brembo's also and was not as dusty as the brembo's on the STI.

Rust on the discs is normal if youre not a daily driver. Even when kept on garage, the discs will heat and collect moist.
Use carbon or brake harder :-)

it's not the quality of the metal; the rotors are steel. steel rusts unless it's protected from the atmospehere. some companies probably apply a coating to the non-contact areas of the rotors; apparently mazda does not.

Exactly.(sun)

Rust on the rotors!? LOL, yeah every time I wash my vehicles!
It's normal on the break rotors, their steel and your pads scrape them down to new metal every time you slow down, nothing to worry about, it's just surface rust and it will come right off when you apply the breaks.
By the way it takes about one micro-second to rust them when they get wet.

Anyone with a GT, take a look at your CHROME TRIM around the windows and see if you have RUST. I noticed RUST spots all over the trim.

Yeah, I noticed it when I took delivery, but I wasn't sure if it was small spots of rust. I did get the Xzylon coating on the exterior and now I can not get these very tiny brown spots off the chrome. Also noticed the same type of spots on passenger rear handle, chrome. I'm not happy to hear that there are problems with this vehicle. I owned a Mazda Protege in 1993 and took care of it for 4 years. It was like new when I got rid of it and only depreciated by $3000 in 4 years. Paid $10,000 and sold it for $7000.

I sure hope this CX 7 turns out to be a good deal too.

man... after 16000km.. washed my car yesterday, and noticed alot of small lil rust speckles on the bottom of the doors...

If your vehicle is white, they are likely not rust particles. Rubber and oil from asphalt can spatter up and onto the car. It comes off since it is on the surface. Just use some bug and tar remover to remedy. We had that on the white MPV all the time. My wife thought the car was already rusting after 25K miles until I polished and waxed the car and it all went away.

well i was hoping it was that before i washed the car, but after washing it was still there.. .. sigh...

I have rust spots on the chrome trim but what can you do eventually I guess if it gets really bad I will take it into the dealer.

I just found a couple of tiny rust spots on my chrome window trim today...BUT I have found a fix! Buy the Turtle Wax Chrome polish and rust remover from Wal-Mart for less than $2/bottle, worked great! I think the rust is actually from transit, it seems to sit on top of the chrome rather than being rust spots in the chrome.

yeah i got rust on the disks and a little on the trim. live in hawaii cant really help that. i use mothers brand chrome polish to get it off.

ok

the rust spots ont he chrome trim and the panels can be easily take off via clay bar.

the rust is caused by impurities in the air that magnatize to the paint/trim. this is what eventually causes oxidation on older cars, because it eats away at the paint.

like someone said earlier. claybaring your car 2-3 times a year is the best way to maintain the look and feel of your paint.

and to the rust on the rotors comment. +2 on the coating. some rotors are covered in a zinc coating tha prevents the rust. the rust goes away after driving, but comes back when i wash the car... its nothing to worry about, its just the metal oxidizing.

more than likely it's fall out which is normal if you dont wax your car that often. brake dust sits on the paint surface and rusts. Will need an acid bath and an immediate coat of wax.
