Hi there, not sure if this is in the right section but I guess appearance is my best choice. So I am trying to fix those nasty rust spots that all Proteges get on the rear fender and some at the bottom of doors (though I have none on my doors yet). The one spot on the right is all bubbly but the rust is not at the point where it are through the metal...I am hoping I can get rid of it before it gets to this stage. I am trying to avoid taking to a body shop and spending zillions of dollars for body work so I have been doing some research on DIY solutions. Can you guys provide thoughts on products out there for rust treatment? I have been looking at some like POR-15, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator and just some other brands at the auto shop. Any advise is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I don't really have any experience with any rust fixing products, other than a spray on bedliner. My brother has a black MP5 that he used that on, but it only stayed for this past winter. Nothing sticks to rust, so you have to make sure you prep the surface for whatever you use. I've heard great things about POR-15, but as far as I know it only comes in black. It is a pretty thick rust preventative and seems to work very well. Good luck!

Yeah, I did some research on it and it appears to a glass/cermaic like finish, my only worry is that my car is white so covering a black area might be a bit challenging. I think the prep-work for it it's a bit tedious and you have to follow it 100% if not the product will not work properly.

IIRC por 15 only sticks to bare metal. I'd get some proper epoxy primer and then top coat that with whatever you want. it is all in the prep work

Hmm reading the directions to the POR it is supposed to be painted directly onto the rust. It can be sanded or primed. It's more of a rust preventive as it coats and does not let moisture back in. Got a small sample and going to try it. Having the hardest time finding a place to buy paint from. I found this site

http://scratchwizard.net/

Also here:

From what I found the can ranges from $30 to $40 with shipping

any thoughts? Not many places online to buy paint.
