Rush in a Car Crash! (MSP Totaled)

Sorry to hear cindy, you know i know where you're coming from with my mp3 and all. But, take it as an oppurtunity to start over and do everything you wish you could have done differently. Maybe its time to step up to something you've dreamed of having all along. The important thing is that you are ok, and you know you have the entire pro community behind you.

+1

buy it back and either get another msp and transfer stuff over or fix it up. dont let another one die

Wow, I'm sorry about the loss. I know how it feels to lose something you put so much hard work into. Glad to hear you are ok though. That's the important thing.

dam, cant believe its totaled. That really sucks to hear. There must be frame damage, because the pictures dont look too, too bad. Keep us posted.

I still don't have all the details about just what ALL the damages were, as I won't get a 'final total of damages' call until tomorrow morning .. but the one key thing the adjuster mentioned to me was that the fuse box was mangled. And that in itself is a big hit.

For those of you asking if I'm going to rebuild .. it's all going to come down to numbers. If the car is totaled by a not-too-huge amount, then I'll consider rebuilding. But keep in mind -- I'm a college student who'll be graduating in about a year, and I have to use my head and not my heart when it comes to spending what little money I have right now. It wouldn't make sense for me to invest my money in repairing a badly wrecked car which already has almost 100K miles on the odometer -- when I could instead part out that wrecked car, and use the money from the parts AND from not having it repaired, to invest in a car with significantly less mileage and that's also a step up in the auto world.

Right now, it's all still riding on the phone call from the insurance company that'll be coming tomorrow.

MSP's are dirt cheap. Snag one, swap parts over, call it good. I'll fly out and help... I only require beer, pizza, and a floor.

oh and I tried to call but it went straight to VM. Maybe that isn't your number anymore and some random person has a message from me. haha.

An unexpected new offer has come up. My dad called -- and said he'd give me his 2000 Protege ES. He told me I could have it, and then buy back my MSP and swap everything over.

However .. the 1.8L motor is in the ES, and there's the issue of the transmission as well. I'm not sure if a swap would actually work.

And Rich, yep, my number has changed.

Let me see what kind of deals I can find on a msp... but figure roughly 6k or so for a lower mileage one.

And Rich, yep, my number has changed.

Well either way, at least you'll have some wheels to get around in. Even if you buy the MSP back, you could always just let it sit until you have some cash to figure out what exactly you want to do (move up to something newer, do a swap, etc). Good luck!

Aw hon, I'm so sorry to read about your wreck. :(

I am thankful that you're okay - sheet metal and cars can always be replaced, but there's only one of you. I'll keep you in my thoughts that this all works out to the best it can.

She was a beautiful MSP and she had a great life with you!

I think while modding our cars and making them look beautiful we forget that it's there to protect us from the outside world. Meaning from accidents and what not. So in the way ur msp saved you. Im very sorry for the loss but im glad ur unharmed and ur healthy. Like everyone has stated cars can be replaced but a human being is unreplacable.

Transferring everything from ur msp to ur dads car would be a fun build. I would definetly take that route so ur still with this community. And u got 505zoom to help u out. And u cant get anyone better to do so. I would go that route. G/L and get back in that car and drive girl!

couldn't you swap out everything, like the engine and transmission?

yep..itd be alot easier if it were already a five speed if its an automatic youre gonna have to swap harnesses...since its the 99-00 front end id leave it stock minus maybe some rims and make a sleeper outa it

My dad's car is already a manual transmission. My worry was with the difference in tranny gearing and strength.

My dad was nice enough to already call around to get a price range on how much swapping out the entire engine and tranny would cost. It'd probably be a few thousand.

Once again .. it's all coming down to numbers. However, I'm also considering just taking my dad's Protege and just .. leaving it alone. Pocketing the money from the accident, putting into a high-yield savings account, and sitting on it till I graduate and THEN buy something nice. The only downside to that, is that every time I get in the car, it's probably going to be heartbreaking -- just getting into a Protege that isn't my MSP, and being reminded about the accident every day.

s***.... cindy, i can get my cousin and do that swap in 4-5 hours.. we've pulled my motor and tranny alot.. haha.. if you need help.. ask anyone of us thats nearby.. it would make a nice road trip..
