Running without a Muffler

hehe, blown up mufflers are hella cool - the performance from that happened won't be realised until you get it replaced!!

save yourself some time and just keep a pipe...

by the way there is a thing called a hot dog muffler... have a look into this, as they look stock, have the muffler box, but are pretty ,much just a box around a pipe.... is much good fun!!!

and you guys have turbos, should show up well in the driving - i managed to have a back fire that blew up my 1985 civics muffler, sounded an absolute beast, not ricey, but like a sweet rumble - no whine as it went through the revs.... i loved that car - untill i blew the rod through the bonnet...

oh yeah i got told you have to have a certain amount of back pressure, other wise you'll damage the engine... anyone know anything about this?

Muffler blow-up should be covered under warranty... but if you're modded in the fuel delivery or engine management department they will hassle you and (rightfully) may deny your claim since most changes in engine management parameters can cause this. -L

the muffler that blew up was jic magic and i dont think that they have a warranty on there products wish they did though put me out 400.00$ for just the muffler.

HSM exhaust pics for those interested

TurboMan: Here are the pics of the HSM exhaust idea. Should be pretty straightforward for a decent muffler shop to create one of these, mandrel bent, out of Stainless - would be schweet. I like this one and thank Corey for his creativity, despite all that he had happen after...

that's press bent, not mandrel. mandrel doesn't get narrow right before the bend, press does.

that's mandrel, see how it's the same diameter (or at least way closer) the whole way

Yep - the HSM exhaust is definitely press bent - never said they weren't - reread - my goal would be one that IS mandrel-bent stainless... and as long as I'm dreaming, it'd be a slash-cut or Borla tip, with a small resonator/baffle in it to soften the tone a *little*. The HSM one is definitely press-bent, out of aluminized steel - and the rolled tip looks awful in pictures but quite decent on the car - really, it does - seriously - looks a LOT like stock.

The HSM exhaust is n inexpensive press-bent noisemaker - that's why I bought it - makes nice noises. It's actually pretty well made,. considering it was only like $100. I do think it helps the turbo spool up a little faster, but it's barely noticable - could be all in my head. Sounds fun though. I just took it off for winter and coated it in WD40 'cuz it's not stainless and would rust. Can't wait for that to burn off in spring...

Absolutely no offense taken kylenls - no sweat. I thought yours maybe was the stock muff that blew, which 'splains the "warranty" statement.
