Running rich?

I have a 93 Protege 1.8 sohc and when i start it up, it idles at ~2000 rpm's. After i drive around for a bit it will idle normally but ONLY if i'm in Neutral. if i put my car in gear at all it goes back to idling at 2k rpm's, even when its in gear and i hold the clutch in it still idles that high...

Any advice on how to fix this???

Also my car is getting horrid gas mileage, lol.

try posting in the protege section maybe. sometimes its hard to get the help your looking for on here. might be the wrong section tho
