Has anyboby else had thier tires rub during an auto-x?

My wife was driving the car making a tight right hander and the plastic shield was rubbing the tire. I got under and looked closer and noticed some good wear marks on the inside toward the front.

I thought there would be enough room for the stock tires.? (shrug)

Mine started after I got an alignment with camber bolts. With -1.7 they rub at full lock, the stock -1 on my car did not. The top of the tire is leans in towards the frame rail enough that it lightly touches. I've got 80,000 miles with this alignment and haven't noticed anything on the tires. There is a small patch where the paint is rubbed away on the frame though.

Stock rims? How much offset on the new rims, if not?
yeah thats what I was thinking. The stock wheels don't rub on my car and I'm way lower that I should be.

Everything Stock! Thats why I'm asking I wouldnt think It would even come close to rubbing. I rotated the struts to get -.79 degrees of camber

Mine does it to. Everything is stock.

See! This just proves it! The stock offset IS crappy! 5-10mm spacers will probably improve it (With new studs, etc...), and probably would be cheaper than higher offset wheels. =) Or go for lighter, higher offset wheels, if that doesn't concern you!

I have had no rubbing even in autocrossing, yet, with 215/45-17 or 225/50-15. One thing that you might check is the alignment? We often forget that the alignment actually moves the the tire around. Another possiblility, you didn't say what tires you are running. Even though tires may be the same size, they have different physical dimensions. If you look at all the 215/45-17 tires specs on a site like the Tire Rack you can see this. The Falken Azenis RT215 in 205/50-15 I have on my Miata are physically nearly the same size as my 225/45-15 Hoosiers.

I suspect that it is a combination of these things and production tolerances that are ganging up on you to cause this. This is all I can think of to cause your rubbing.

I have the Nitto Neo Gen according to there web site it 8.39 in section with. The alignment is good, had that checked less than a month ago.

I had the stock tires on mine when I bought it at about 34000 miles. They need replaced very badly. I now have bf goodrich g force sports. I havent had them long. I havent noticed anything yet.

mine lowered around -1", when you full turn it will rub on the inside. I look under the car and also talk to a few tires guys, they said that the wheel offset is too deep inside. If I am not mistaken, is origially come with +55 offset. They recomand me to go with +(32-40) or get smaller tires like 205/40/R17. I dont know which route i am taking, but it starting to concern me its rub to the underbody metal instead of plastic. I Wonder why this thing happen with stock wheels anyway?

Go with a +42, at max, I would say, depending on the width of the wheel. You won't want to drop your contact patch that much.
