rsx-s vs. gti 1.8t

It seems most of the younger members are mostly interested in quickness, over all else. There is no question that the Honda is a superior product over VW. Hell! I wish Mazda had the overall quality of Honda. Our cars are more exciting, sure; but Honda has the quality edge.

You can always count on Darin to ruin the Sausage Fest! Thank God for that...

Yeah...following that logic, why doesn't he get the new beetle turbo? :D j/k...

Darin's right though...it has to do what he wants it to. I've always wanted a car that made me feel like part of the road. I've got it...if he wants speed for cheap, *make* him look at a silver SRT-4 (the only color that really looks nice on it..I know, I've seen them all). If he wants fit, finish, and reliability then Acura is the way to go. If he wants an Audi someday, then tell him to start with teh wee-dub.

I was having the exact same dilemma rsx-s or GTI. I test drove both and got the GTI. The Acura had tranny noise in the car and just seemed cheap...the bose stereo sucked really bad too. The GTI seemed tighter, rode better and overall seems the better value. I also checked the MSP but my bad experiences with Mazda USA and my MP3 eliminated that car.

I have had my GTI for 4 months now and I have no complaints. 6600 miles, averaging about 32 mpg, no problems yet.

Superior in what way? Reliability? No question. But if that's all you care about, just buy a Civic and drive it into the ground.

Ha! I have owned a Civic in the past. Like (what was already said), pieces fall off of VWs. And......Eye Candy, they aint! (puke)

1) LIKE CIVICS ARE!!?!?!?!
2) You just wanted to use that smiley!
3) The engine compartment in the VW actually is a work of art, like any other german auto's is. That 1.8T or going out the door in the next couple years, though, in favor of a 2.0T (I believe...)

Goodness!! (you like that?) no! Civics certainly aren't that good on the eyes (especially the new ones). The recent Si(s) - not the new one, were nice though.

Yes; I agree about the mechanics of VW. It's the little stuff, interior, etc... with the bad reputation. Man! I remember when I wanted a Scirocco years ago. Really great to drive!

Hell yes! It looks really nice at car shows, and keeps crap clean. Thing is, theer isn't a cubic centimeter of wasted space in some of those compartments and it's a PITA to work on them. Basically...it's just an easy way to keep things looking neat under there. As for the Scirocco...eh! I'll take a Corrado any day, though!

WTH is Porsche thinking!?!? Keep the Boxster your own! You already gave them the Tourreg and it's better than your own SUV!!!

Best part is that VW is supposed to cost in the $25k range. I'm guessing a 1.8T version in that range, with the VR6 being over $30k. They won't make it too expensive, because they don't want to infringe on the sales of TTs and Boxsters.

hmmmmmmm $25,000. What would I buy? Before, I bought my MAZDASPEED, for $25,000, I would have bought a WRX. But; I don't know now. Not a VW, though.

I'd buy an R32 in a heartbeat before I bought a WRX, or even an STi or Evo. I'm a VW/Audi fan from way back though.

The artical I read said VW was targetting the "low end" roadster market - Miata, Pontiac Solstice, etc.

hmm...Solstice....w/ Subaru AWD...drool...So long as they don't put that STUPID toyota Ecotec in the Solstice...ICK! And I think the Miata still has them beat on price, if they're going 25k, neh?

When I was test driving cars a month ago, I was trading in an '01 Miata LS sport package. A very good handling car. I wanted a backseat, fun to drive (good power), and good handling car.

I drove the 'anniversary edition' Golf which was actually a very nice driving car. It was a bit too 'bling-bling' for me but, I liked the way it drove. So, I drove a 'normal' 1.8T GTI. The turbo lag was awful. It was like an on/off switch... slow car/fast car... The handling was fair at best, the interior seemed really cheap to me, and was no better than a Civic DX to me.... and it was fairly ugly as well. Not WRX ugly but, getting there.

I drove the RSX normal version which to me, had better handling, way smoother power, great riding car, and reasonably quiet. It was just a little too boring for me. Almost too refined.?

I drove a Mazda 6 w/ a V6 and was impressed with it overall but, it felt too hollow and somehow disconnected feeling.

I drove the MSP out of curiosity and couldn't be happier with that choice. However, it really depends on the driver. Most people want something that they like the looks, then the handling/power and the ergonomics. You might ask how big a deal is a cup holder?

If it were me, there's no question an RSX is a better car than the Golf. The Golf is an old car with lots of band-aids. The RSX is a newly designed car that's more refined but without a lot of character. Also, I would much prefer going to an Acura dealer for anything than a VW dealer... I think they're neck and neck with Mazda for worst service dept.'s.

Really? Do you think the interior of the MSP is better? Just curious.

Amen to that!

I like the interior of my 'Speed just fine. But; a friend of mine's brother just bought an RSX-Type S, and that interior Rocks! (rockon)

Ideally; I would like a Honda (Acura) platform, with my suspension, and engine, and the MAZDASPEED price. The RSX-Type S price tag is too much.

My bro-in-law has a '02 1.8t GTi. It's fast but the interior leaves alot to be desired. not to mention that the windows fall down for no apparent reason. I say get the Honda, it looks alot more grown up then the GTi.

In what way? Seriously, I'm just stunned when I hear people not like the VW interiors. I have a 2003 Jetta in addition to my 2002.5 P5, and the Jetta interior is so much better in every conceivable way. Maybe it's just me, but in every car review they always mention that VW interiors are so much better than anything else in their class. I guess it's all a matter of taste in the end.
