MazdaSpeed Protege
Hi everyone, i am new the the Mazdas247 site so i have not really had time to spend days researching this problem i am having and am hoping someone can help me out. I recently got a 2003 MSP with 113xxx km. I replaced the turbo with the stock T25. The car has a SteedSpeed manifold, a fmic, hardpipes, knock off greddy bov, and a full 2 1/2" exhaust. The turbo is pushing 9psi (no idea why, its a brand new waste gate) I am having problems with my car dropping to very low rpms when i press the clutch after having the rpms above 2000. So basically i can never keep the clutch in for more then a second or the car will nearly or even completely stall. If i let the rpms drop with the cars speed, to under 2000, then it works fine. I have no idea whats causing this. I recirculated my bov, but that hasn't helped. I am still getting a little oil leaking from my turbo into the intake, but i don't think its enough to be a big problem. (it passed e-test anyway) This problem is very recent and actually just happened after i replaced my cat. the day after i got it replaced, problems started. I also replaced the egr valve a week ago. I am getting one code that says O2 sensor bank 1 high voltage, but i dont think that is the cause, but probably just a result of the problem. has anyone had this before?

the turbo can naturally be pushing 9 psi, a guy i know was running close to 10 naturally with similar mods. unless you set your boost to what you want. i think 9 psi is fine with what you have but idk the answer to your main question sorry

is it an atp wastegate? cuz that sounds like the same problem i had when my wastegate was shot. Is there a chance you maybe damaged the new egr when you installed it that might cause the problem too

The wastegate is the one that came with the turbo when I bought it brand new. As for the egr, it is only like 2 weeks old and cost 200 bucks. Would it really be shot?

I found today that it only happens when I go straight from the gas to the clutch. If I let the gas out like half a second before I push the clutch in the rpms level out nicely.

wheres the maf at the intake that may be the culprit may need to relocate..

The maf is right after the intake filter. It is literally filter then an inch later maf. The the vaccum line, the reculator line then the turbo.

Can I mount the maf right before the tb? After the the bov and everything? Are there downsides to this?

You can mount it before the TB, but I think you will need about 6 inches in between and another 6 inches between BOV. A few people have busted their MAF due to the boost pressure, but most have had no ill effects. In fact, most will say that their car actually ran better

I will say mine runns better I got a 90 degree coupler on the TB then maf then ait.

I used a piece of pipe the same diameter as the ait base to support it in a coupler ill post a pic..

Kinda off the topic, sorry, but why does everyone relocate the MAF, I'm going to be installing my FMIC soon and curious about this..

well for you sir you are going to make the distance from where the air is registerd to the point of entrance further apart so the car may not work as it should.

Any updates on this? I boosted my p5 with the stock msp turbo and now I'm getting problems similar to this, except the RPMs drop when I decelerate, bounce, and go steady. It seems like the car wants to die when I decelerate/push clutch in.
