Although I'm not an owner yet. I'm 30, father, ATM, cook, QC Tech for a paving company. I should be getting a huge promotion in November that will make me a FC/20B or a Miata/13BT owner. I know it expesive, but like I said... a Huge Promotion that should put me around the low 6 figure mark.

You'll have to star out shoveling 320*F asphalt in S. Fl weather.

You have the car I want anyways. S4 or S5?

Since I've been hunting down a 20B Cosmo in good condition, I quickly realized just how rare these 20B engines are...and the fact that some people are dismantling Cosmos just for the 20B doesn't really put a smile on my face...Mazda should make a 20B crate motor (not some insanely priced mazdaspeed race version as was previously available) and save the Cosmo from extinction. Luckily, I found a "minter"...I can rest a little more easy knowing that I'm going to save at least one 20B from being "swapped". :D

That said...At the end of the day...You've got to Pay2Play...and a nice job & salary definitely makes that a whole lot easier :)

I am a love of endangered species and never partake in the hunt. However, if someone else has hunted and killed the beast, I will eat its flesh. I know someone who has a 20B at their house sitting and waiting for me to pick it up. It has been in the states for a few years now and the owner died. His widowed is holding it for me. I never knew he had one because he was a redneck. He was going to put in a race airboat. INSANE MF'R.

getting a 20b already runs about $10k....buying a new one from mazda would cost double that.

Unless I'm missing something...You can't buy a new 20b from Mazda or anyone for that mater...Mazda doesn't make that engine anymore...From what I've read on Japansese Eunos Cosmo owner sites...When your 20b kicks the bucket, you've got 3 choices and they all involve rebuilding the engine. Do it yourself...Bring it to a tuner shop or hit the dealer...It costs at least 1,000,000 yen to have a 20b rebuilt (not sure if that includes install & labor) at the dealer...which is about $8500!

I believe back in the day you could order a NA race version of the 20b from Mazdaspeed for some insane price (I'm sure there are a few still around sitting in some hardcore racer's barn out in the countryside)...I agree though that if you could buy a new standard production version from Mazda...it would probably cost 2,000,000 yen at least...which is almost $20k!

no they dont make a "new" motor...i was speaking hypothetically in reference to your "Mazda should make a crate motor"

even if you buy a used 20b, you still need to rebuild it most of the time. if you rebuild yourself, you could possibly keep the cost below $10k for the motor + replacement parts. the upfit to make it fit into anything imported to america will be one of the hard things to do.

best bet on a 20b swap is to buy one that is already swapped.

Dont be so quick to judge.

Most km from an original 20B-REW engine in a Cosmo = 190,000km before it failed to start one morning VIN = JCESE-100515 (Titanium Type-E)

My personal 20B-REW Cosmo = 14 years old & still powering hard on its original engine. VIN = JCES-100190 (Deep blue mica Type-SX)
