I did a search over on Rx7Club, saw that JDuncan did as well on the same topic actually, so I thought I'd also ask here to get some thoughts.
I bought a 1980 RX-7 from JDuncan (fun car, i must say) and have been trying to lean the car out without destroying it
It is set up with a Rotary Engineering intake manifold and a pair of Weber DCD carburetors as well as the bane of my automotive existence, a fuel pressure regulator. It was running between 4 and 5 psi on the FPR and I've dialed that down to about 3 psi. Three things I've noticed; 1) the car no longer uses an 1/8 tank of fuel when I drop the hammer
and 2) the car takes a little feathering on the throttle when starting her up, even when warm and 3) the car spits and pops less when she "diesels down" after turning it off.
I know the real way to lean this car out is by leaning out the dual Weber carbs. This is simply something that is way out of my realm of expertise right now, and there isn't a shop around here (Mazda included, lol) that wants to look at this car. Its like they are afraid of anything without pistons
My question is, how or where would be a good place to start in terms of tuning these carbs? How would I monitor what I need to monitor to properly tune it (a/f gauge, egt gauge?) and what numbers should I be looking for?
