Rota Wheels

Woohoo! Just ordered a set of P1's from subydude. Thanks for the reference. Hyper silver for me.

The P1's were $187.50 each and I paid $870 total for wheels, boring and lugs. I bet TRSpeed3 paid even less because he didn't need boring for his wheels and they are almost the same as mine (10 spoke vs 9 spoke and a couple minor differences, and different color). However, the Tarmac 3's aren't available in Hyper Black.

The tires fit just fine. If you read the specs on our tires on a site like Tirerack.com, it will show you that they safely fit on wheels up to 8". Anecdotally, I've noticed that the overall diameter of my wheel is slightly lower (speedo is off by ~1 mph, according to my gps and the neighborhood radar detecting signs). That could be due to the wheel being slightly shorter from the lateral stretching, tread wear, or a combination of both.

I plan to get 235/40's when the tread on my stockers wears out.

On a side note, for those of you curious about offset, fender clearance, rubbing issues, etc: From what I've read on these forums, when you go to an 8" wide wheel, you need a greater offset than the stock wheels because there is more space available on the inside of the wheel wells than the outside. On Swampass's car, he has +48 (same as mine) and lowered on Mazdaspeed suspension and has very slight rubbing issues on the outside. The RX-8 wheels are +52 or so and are a perfect fit from everything I've read. I have no proof, nor any links to back that up so take that information as you will.

Dude you have to show me a picture. I want the black P1's with the red lip soooooooooooo freakin bad. They would look sick on my black car, imho. What is "boring out" and how much would that cost me? F#ck the haters, rotas are dope, cheap and very durable. My friend ran some on his 2002 wrx for like 4 years and they held up better than the gram lights he has now (though not as sexy).

I originally whanted to get the p1's but they didnt come in the color i wanted...Im glad i when with the tarmac 3's since im the only one so far with that rim and color....i like being diff and original...

Alot of people are the only people that have a particular wheel. That's sorta lame, no offense, nothing original about running a rim that is on a million other cars and is rota's number one selling wheel. Not trying to be a di*k, just stating the obvious.

I think, peronally, the p1's are the best looking wheel rota sells, not a huge tarmac fan, the spokes look fat for some reason.

The P1's are hot! Do they not fit without boring them?

Check out the black with the red lip, even sexier.

I use Rotas for beater track wheels... but there's nothing better than an original wheel. I don't like buying knockoffs but that's the only way some people modify their cars...

sorry for the multiple posts. don't see how buying knockoff wheels is a big deal, wheels are such a freakin rip off these days, o.z. charges like a grand per wheel. Just because you put rotas on your car doesn't mean that you are being cheap about modding your car, it means you drive a mazda and arent crapping money.

eh...p1s look pretty good, but that time attack trend got old quicker than black wheels with polished lips.

Black wheels with polished lips look dope. Wheels that look good aren't a trend, they just look good. My roomates tt 300zx is graphite with black wheels and a polished lip, looks beautiful.

I get it, I just don't see whats bad about it if alot of people have it, personally. I don't know, I wouldnt say it's everywhere, I maybe see 2 cars a day with that set up (aside from benz's that come that way). People try to hard to be cool by being all original, I think people should pick what they like and not worry about what other people think.

*ends pointless rants for now*.

Bought myself 18x8 48mm Hyper Black Rota Torques earlier this month. Since it's a custom order, it will take 3 months to arrive at my doorstep. That's fine because I am running snow tires right now. 20lb/wheel. They aren't that light but heck of a lot lighter than stockers.

I plan to do Cobb Stage 2 suspension with 235/40/18 falkens. Now I read there is no rubbing but I guess some people do rub? One person is running coilovers, tires tucked in and no rub.

I don't know where I just saw the post, but the boring of the P1's I bought was included in the price from subydude. I paid 850 shipped.

I would rather roll on steelies than have most of the sub $200/wheel knockoffs people use.

And why is that? Because of the looks? Or do you have experience with them? I was running Rota's on my civic almost 10 years ago. They are a proven quality rim for both the street and track.

Times have changed. There are a lot of manufacturers out there that are making high quality items for less and making serious money on it. Not everyone wants to drop 2500+ on a set of wheels, especially when some of them own cars that cost the same......

Post a pic of your car on steelies and we'll see if that looks better than one of the rotas. Well, so far you're the only one who doesnt like rotas, but that's cool cause this thread was started to gauge if rota is a bang-for-buck kind of product.

They copy designs, but the process is no half-baked. Go to their webiste and see the process they go through to shell out quality wheels. I wouldnt think that because it's a knock off that it'll shred into pieces when you're goin 120mph on an open road. I see rotas on autocross events and they dont look so bad, actually they look good and for a cheaper price you get numerous styles to choose from compare to the wheels under $200 each on tirerack from various brands.

Nowadays every company copy's each others wheel designs...Sure some rota wheels look like work rims but so what....i dont see it as buying a cheap wheel i see it as saving money and using the money i saved on power mods..why spend 2-3gs on rims when u can get a nice set for 700 thats looks good and is reliable...Trust me im all into the JDM trend but i draw the line on certain things...Now x'ed...being original is something ive always done with all of my cars...I like to set my car apart form everyone else...Down here in Miami i see those played out black with red lip rims maybe 5-8 times a day..The only way i would get those in that color set up if it were the time attacks.....I like my rims and thats why i got them not just to be diff.....

I guess picky ass people who dont like knock off s*** dont like knock off s*** for their cars either. Yeah they are strong and cheap but its prob cuz theyre knock off and bleh lookin. Flame on...

Not trying to start a squabble or anything but i see rotas all day too...one probably cuz i live in miami where everyone thinks they have a race car and two...probably just cuz they are cheap. Garauntee you dont see those 2-3 dollar set of volks as much as you see rotas...now thats standing apart. Trust me homie ur not the only one that wants their car different, my old p5 below is just one example. Ive never seen one anything like it down here in the 305 up until i sold it. As you get older ull see its a waste of money period...whether a 700 dollar set of rotas or a 3000 dollar set of volks. If its what you like to do and its YOUR money then **** it. Spend it. Hope i didnt piss anyone off.

there's nothing wrong with strong and cheap, you can add comparably lightweight too. Now, to get suckered into buying expensive set of wheels that does the same thing as rotas does...there's something wrong with that. You're basically buying the name. When enough people realize rota is an ok brand and starts buying them rota will make a name for itself then people will buy a boatload of rotas, price will go up. It's the law of supply and demand. Even the expensive brands started out that way. Diference is rota have another marketing strategy...copying designs.

So I guess you spent a lot of money on your P5 putting on "genuine parts"...then sold it but never saw back the investment? Flame back.
