Roof vibrations and why they are bad in this vehicle.

Subwoofers have caused so much vibration in this vehicle. So I've slowly been trying to deaden the crap out of everything where I think it would be most beneficial. Was trying to avoid the roof. But it needed to be done. I halfway brought the headliner down and it was clear why I get so much roof vibration. Plastic panels are right up against the roof. The light compartment in the back seat is also right up against the roof. As the roof vibrates, it will smack right against these plastic pieces. I used thin foam for the plastic as much as I could, and got about a sheet and a half of sound deadener on the roof. Keep in mind, dropping the headliner even this much involves removing several panels and you can easily dirty or even crease the head liner. However its totally worth the work. Its been the most beneficial out of all the areas I've applied deadener. And I hope to do the front part of the roof down the road. I got a few before pics that I included showing the light compartment and the plastic pieces I mentioned. By the time I was done, I was just ready to button it up and get cleaned up. So no after pics.

I have a similar problem not with the roof but the interior door handle. Problem gone if I press the door handle hard against the door trim panel. Is there an easy fix?

Yes. I like to use thin foam. You can get it at Walmart where the fabric and polyfill is at. Cut it to size, and stick it to your problem areas. I use 3m multi purpose spray adhesive to stick it. The front doors to have some padding, but I agree they need more. Just remove the door panel and stick the foam to the panel where you notice vibration. What's happening is the panel is vibrating against the inner door skin. By placing the foam between the two you should greatly reduce that issue.

Thanks! I wrongly thought it was due to door handle cap vibrating against the panel. Your explanation (panel vibrating against inner door skin) makes more sense.

well you very well could be getting rattle from the door handle cap. But besides just removing the cap, I think foam on the back side of the door is the best bet. You could try a small square right behind the cap, and then see if it will snap back into place. I'm not sure it will though.

Toneb210, since you were up there in the clouds can you tell me if the shark fin antenna is bolted down? I think the not so good FM antenna is in the fin and I'm looking for ways to improve it.

My handle cap vibrates, it's pretty loud and just from normal driving, not from the music. I think that I will put some sponge/foam piece behind it.

Not sure. I wasn't looking for it. It has to screw onto something though. So I'm sure there is a fixed bolt for it. Have you taken to the dealer for the issue yet? I haven't had any problems with fm reception

I don't have this issue with normal driving. Maybe the cap is loose?? Try pushing on it a little and see if you hear a snap. Otherwise the foam is definitely a good idea
