I Just Got My Protege 5 And It Has The Roof Racks, It Doesn't Look Bad But I Think It'll Look Better Without Em...how Do I Take Them Off??? Please Help...thanx

In each cross section at either end there is a large molded piece. Each one has one single phillips head screw in it. Remove the phillips head screw from each one of the end cap pieces thenyou have to pull them up. They have clips where the are "clipped" in and they will take a little effort to pop them out without breaking them. Once they pop up then you have I think 2 12mm bolts on both side of the end of the cross bar. Then they come off. They make caps that hide the open section on the long plastic strips running along the roof line.

Good luck.:D

thanx,,,i took them off but the pieces on the sides don't have any bolts or anything and i can''t take them off...do u know of anywhere where i can buy thos caps so it doesn't look like a piece is missing?...

yeah its that one...how much do they sell for'??? i really don't know...

no idea....i've posted up in the p5 thread asking.....like i said best thing would be to find someone who is getting rid of the rack and wants the caps....there is another guy who is looking for some caps

Look in the how to section. There is a complete write up on how to remove your roof rack. You're gonna have to remove your headliner. The job takes about an hour if you work really fast but I would say to leave about a 3 hour block of time open just in case. I removed mine and traded straight up with another person on the forums for their filler strips but that was because I decided to be nice. The roof rack is worth a bunch more than the filler strips.

i removed the rack but the piece that holds it is still there...now i need to study that how to thread and take them off but i need to find that lining you got first...

If you still need one, let me know. I have removed mine and am selling it. 50.00 USD plus you would pay for shipping from US Zip Code, 03103. I have all components ~ Jenne
