Roof Rack questions.

I have an 02 P5 and I want to take the racks off the roof, but I bought my car used and I don't believe the pieces that fill in the gaps on the roof are there.

Anyone know what part numbers are, or how much they cost from the dealer or anywhere else?

Also, why do our cars only have 1 power outlet and only front cupholders?

I think the cupholder thing is an import vs. domestic thing. My husband's 2 seater Chevy S-10 had 4 cupholders in it. 4! Two seats! Explain that one to me. I don't know if other countries prioritize cupholders as much as Americans. Least that's what I gathered from an Autobahn Modern Marvels I watched once. :D

Try doing a search on the roof rack part # - I remember seeing a thread on this last week. Good luck! :D

yeah, they're $80...and there was a group buy for rear-seat cupholders in the "for sale/group buy" section.

Because our P5s up here in Canada don't come with roof racks standard, I can't really help you with that problem but as for the rear cup holders, just add one yourself. I bought one from Walmart and installed it in the spot at the rear of the centre console. It cost me $7.00 CDN for the holder. It is only for one cup but that is okay. Here are a couple of pics.

Was a pretty easy install and looks fine I think.

Hey skyhawk174 that's pretty nifty! I think I like that a lot better than the one they're doing the GB for - looks more low profile. Nice find! :D

Hey clownphish, thanks. I actually found out about this on the other forum which is now down.

I think the JDM one is for two cups and I agree with you, it stuck out too much. So what if mine is for one cup, I guess my passengers will have to use it in turn :D :D. Plus the other cup holder is alot more than $7.00.

I got prices from the dealer for the roof rack filler pieces of $7.40 and $8.40 and I would need 2 of each of those so it only totals about $32.00. Is this right?

Are these what I am talking about?

These are the pieces I found on another thread, so when I take the rack cross pieces off then I put these in to fill it?

The pieces above will fill the gaps left by the cross-members, but you will still have the two, elevated black plastic strips running nearly the length of your roof. For complete removal, do a search for "roof rack removal how to."

Now that P5's come standard WITHOUT the roof rack, you can probably purchace the drip-rails from the dealer istead of having to buy/steal some from a Canadian. Not sure how much they cost, though.

EDIT: re-read post. Those are the pieces if you still want to put your rack back on someday.

Speaking of roof racks......I want to take mine off, but I'm not too sure if I'm doing it right. I unscrewed the two screws in the ends of each crossbar, but the plastic covering doesn't want to come off too easy. Is this the correct way to do this?

Yup, those are the parts. You will need to reuse the spring/lock things that are attached to the existing rack mounts to hold them in place.

i think maybe the import people know better than to have so many cupholders so that way us dumb americans dont get into so many accidents while trying to eat and drink while driving at the same time. :D

yeah, you unscrew the screws, then the plastic at the sides comes apart in 2 pieces (top and bottom)

just yank (carefully :D), there are clips holding them in.

after that there are bolts holding the crossmembers to the rail (i think 14 mm?)

the part i find hardest are the rear plastic clips at the back of the rail. those piss me off.

Right on, thanks uclap5.

I'll do that. Yeah, I was worried about hearing a "snap!" or "pop!" and then finding out I broke a clip piece or something.
