Ok, so I took off my roof rack last night and don't know which look I like better. With the roof rack on, the P5 looks more "active" and SUV sporty. With the rack off and the plastic filler pieces in, the car looks more sleek and the wind noise is cut in half when the sun roof is open.

So, what do you all think? Do you like it on or off? Its a 30min change either way.

The rack holds the surfboard, so reguardless as to weather of not it looks better, they are staying on. Well, now that I think about it, When the winter comes, I might take them off just to streamline the cars looks. I hadnt thought about doing that befor.

i pulled mine off at the dea;ership the day i bought the car and it has never bbeen back on.

i hate my roof rack, and will trade it to anyone who gives me the plastic stipes.

I liked the rack on as much as off but it is so much quieter with it off and the sunroof open. Bad design putting the front rail right over the sunroof!

I use the factory bars for my bike, but take the rack off most of the time (wind noise, yah)

I would have gone with aftermarket, but can't deal with having the arms attached to the door sills and resting on the paint. I think that the aftermarket rack setups don't utilize the best mounting methods available.

i bought the mp5 cause its a sporty and utility style wagon,
i love my rack, its purposeful, and adds a tatical look to an already sporty car.

I don't like the roof rack, I think it makes the car look more like an SUV/station wagon, not what I want. I want my car to look sleek. So I took it off.

:p My 2003.5 came without the factory rack, so I can't vote. I like the way it looks without, and the way it looks with. I wanted the rack, because I knew we would use it occasionally. But I've now got a Yakima rack, which makes it easy to put it on only when needed.

I bought mine with the roof rack and added one bike rack for my Cannondale. Tired of folding seats down and stuffing the bike in the back. Car is black mica, tinted, lowered with Eibachs and still looks great with the racks. Car turns heads and gets compliments everywhere.

fks

i took mine off.

when i first removed it, the car looked a lot longer.

but now i'm used to it off. unecessary weight and i would never put anything on top.

i would much rather have the 160 dollar filler strips which look 100 times better, but i cant afford that mod right now

The car definitely looks longer without the rack. I like the look of it on...makes the car look shorter and more aggressive. However, it is a LOT easier to clean and care for the car without the rack on.

I prefer the rack on the car. It just adds some uniquness, per se.

My 6'4" fits in the P5 with no problems, but when I'm surfing with more than 1 or 2 other guys, I'll use the racks. Also, when winter comes, I'll be busting out the big-wave gun, so I'll need the rack. Nothing over 7'6" fits inside, no matter how far forward the seat is. ;)
lol, It's a good excuse when they're not on if you don't want to bring an instant crowd surfing with you. "Sorry, not enough room for you. No racks!"

I took my racks off for the first time the other day and today I drove up to Ocean Beach(75miles) to surf.
All I can say is...Man! The car is MUCH more quiet without the racks on. I might leave it this way for awhile.
