Roof Rack Distance

Hi all. I'm considering purchasing a 5. I currently have a Thule Playpen basket that pretty much has a fixed length between the mounts.

Based on what I've read here the OEM roofrack bars are mounted on a certain spot on the vehicle. I want to make sure the OEM roofrack would match up with my Thule Playpen. Can someone who has the OEM roofrack provide the distance between the two bars?

just measure the length where the filler caps are on the roof

I just my son to measure this...He says it is 33-34 inches.....approximately.

Sounds about right (too lazy to go out in the rain and measure). When I ordered the racks I was told they fit Thule accessories.

The spec for the Playpen basket is that it can't be mounted on something with more than 29" between the bars. If the Mazda bars are spaced at 33/34" it probably won't fit. Damn.

You should be able to go to the Thule website, use the "what fits my car" feature and see what they recommend. It may even give you the fit specs such as the distance between bars that you're looking for.

They don't have any "basket" that they recommend right now for the Mazda5. Looks like they agree with my assessment that the max length on the baskets doesn't fit the longer 5 distance.
