Roll Cages

Are there any manufacturers that make bolt in roll cages for the protege 5.

Also if there are any bolt in cages can they be upgraded to meet scca solo standards?

I have a bolt-in 4-point Autopower race roll bar in my MSP. I'm very happy with the fit. The main hoop is back as far as possible and within 1/4 inch of the roof and the rear bars are as far outside as possible. The catalog only lists "Protege 4-door 99+" so you would have to call them to see if it fits the P5 as well. I saved about $45 ordering through Stranoparts rather than ordering direct.

Nice!!!! But damn, so people cant really sit in the backseat anymore huh? (scratch) Cause if a babyseat can fit back there (eventually.. we're not talking anytime soon... lol) then I'd be golden. Racing mom... haha Have the kid hold on to the 'oh sh*t' bar in back.

looks good, not even using it as a harness? is there a safe way to get harnesses as seat belts without going all out with a roll cage such as that?

No, no one can sit in the back seat if you have a roll bar. If you got into an accident they would be thrown into the tubes. I would definitely never put a child back there, even if the child seat is supposed to hold them back.

damn thats cool. how much did you pay for it?

I think it was around $450 and the shipping was right around $100. There was a slight price increase in January since steel prices have gone up.

I will have harnesses in soon. I just installed the roll bar a couple weeks ago and haven't gotten around to ordering them. I installed it because I plan on doing track events and want the rollover protection. For autocross, there are some harnesses (like the Schroth Rallye) which mount to the rear seatbelt mounting points.

Damn, I'd like some roll bars but I'd hate to lose the backseat. Thats the whole purpose of having a 4 dr and not a 2dr sports car. Maybe they could make one where you CAN have passengers that wont get their ass kicked if they got into an accident.

Damnit, damnit, damnit.

i want one.. tell me how much and some more info!!

A little more info on the bar: As they say in the catalog, it will get a couple scratches in the paint in shipping (which I haven't touched up yet), but it actually looked a lot better than I expected. The bolts, nuts and backing plates are all supplied with it. You need to drill 3 holes for each mounting point. Then the mounting plate goes on the other side of the floor/wheel well and then bolt it together. I used a lot of silicone around the bolts and backing plates to seal them up and painted the backing plates so they won't rust. You will need to cut some slots in the plastic trim next to the rear seats. I haven't done mine yet as you can see in the pictures.
