Personally i think bakrauf needs to just keep dating her xD, or maybe you just aren't ready to "settle" down, hell if your asking abunch of peeps on a forum this question, you may as well go buy parts for your car becuase i'm pretty sure you just aren't ready for that kind of stuff yet. I hope everything works out for you but you have to realize this is one of the biggest decisions in your life, its FOREVER it doesnt go away haha. So when you are ready you and only you will know you are ready. Peace. 
is this true? are american girls particularly -asking for- rings that cost more than xxxx ????? if yes, they ARE indeed golddiggers... the woman you want to marry shouldn't ask for something that causes you unneccessary trouble (=reducing your precious pile of money for a no-use luxury item)
go buy her a beautiful ring (or a custom made one) for a REASONABLE price... she should be happy with. if she starts to rant because of the low price = send her out on the streets and let her get the money herself ^^

Well, if those shows The Bachelor, Joe Millionare, and even The Flavor of Love taught us anything its.... alot of women cant cook chicken unless they can order out or have it catered, they ordinarily go out in mini skirts and stilettos even if its to the park to play ball, and they will al tell you that they love you... just as long as you hand them a $20 and the keys to your mercedes. lol
But seriously, I had a $450 engagement ring (on sale) and just got my wedding ring (also on sale) after 7 years of marriage and being together. Now for Valentines day, I'll probably end up with a carnation and $2 box of chocolates.....
and thats only because we're spending money on car parts in the meantime. So to hell with jewelry.

So to hell with jewelry.I would also like to point out that $1700 is not a lot of money for something that should be kept and worn for forever. It is much more that a piece of jewlery, its a symbol of your love and your future.

Well I bought the Ring today. I felt guilty for buying CustomMSP's SMic,the Silicone IC pipe, the other vacum tubing, the Apexi turbo timer, Stewart Warner Oil Presure gauge, and full piller 2x pod..LMAO. I guess all of it is money well spent in the long run. THanks for all the replys and some really funny posts!

) is that once they find a compatible partner, they just want some token to know that nothing bad is going to happen in the future. They look at it as an investment for us. They know us well enough to know that if we sacrifice x amount of dollars for a stupid ring for them, that they don't have to worry about us sleeping around with others. Women are very calculating like that, even the ones that say they only care about the love part and money doesn't matter blah blah blah. They then trick us into believing that it is for OUR benefit that they will now be "hands off" from other possible suitors. She didn't want the $1700.00 ring to show off to her friends. If she wanted to show off, she would've asked for the $5000.00 one. She wanted a ring with an amount equivalent to mods that you wanted for the car. She was testing the waters with you and since you bit, she will definately do it again. "Once you start down the darkside, forever will it dominate your destiny".
All you had to do was tell her that you loved her more than your car and here is a ring to prove it ($500.00 yellow crap diamond from Kay's). But I will say this, you need to cut this off at the head, quickly (figuratively, please). You need to tell her that you got this ring for her because it's the one she wanted and you love her. But then you need to remind her that you still have hobbies that you want to partake in and she won't be getting free handouts like this all the time.
Trust me (and others) Compromise is vital to a healthy relationship. She needs to understand that just as much as you do.

With in 3 days of getting engaged I was already getting dragged to reception halls. Within 2 weeks she had a dress. Within 2 months she had the flowers, guest list, all colors, menu, accessories, and music already selected.
We are 6 months away and everything is already done other then the mailing of the invitations...which we picked out last week.
Wow!!!! Sorry, guess I got lucky, lol. Although, now that I think about it, I suppose she did try that with me, the taking me to a bridal show. I told her I would never do that again and that was that .

You could do more research and save some money, and not sacrifice the size of the diamond on the ring. Why not spend $800 on a $2000 dollar ring? Goto www.bidz.com ? Just my 2 cents......

FWIW, I finally presented my g/f with her ring and officially asked her to marry me. It was while we were at her grandparents in Illinois last week. Her grandfather is dying of ALS (Lou Gherig's disease) and may not be around much longer. It meant so much to her, and to him, that a moment she'll never forget is now forever tied to what may be her last good memories of her grandfather. He choked up and gave me a hug and told me, "You're a good man. Welcome to our family." Hell, I choked up.
So far everyone who has seen the ring has been blown away. After they get over their initial shock (it's an incredible ring), they DON'T ask about my occupation or income. They don't ask what it cost. (Turns out two appraisers think I got it for half of market value...w00t.) They say stuff like, "He must really think you're special...or more importantly, or he must really love you... you lucky girl, etc." So much for the theory that it's all about gold-digging bitches. Most importantly, SHE'S happy. She loves it. It makes her feel good about herself and good about us, and it makes me feel good as well. I don't regret it for a second.

if you give her the ring theres always the chance that you'll never be able to buy those parts... but I think if your sure that you want to marry this girl you shouldnt hesitate, its not like you can marry your msp

I say buy a "less nice" ring - marriage isn't about the ring. If you're still together 5-10 years, drop the change on a really nice ring.
